Senior Technical Officer in Seismology

Senior Technical Officer in Seismology
The Geophysics Section of the School of Cosmic Physics at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS) invites applications for a Senior Technical Officer to lead the technical aspects of its work in both marine and terrestrial seismology. The Geophysics Section owns, operates and maintains: a diverse pool of terrestrial seismometers & geophones; ocean bottom seismometers (OBSs); hydrophones & absolute pressure sensors; Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) interrogators.
Working within a larger team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maintenance, calibration and operation readiness of the sensing pool, with a particular focus on the ocean sensing and DAS equipment. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the delivery of field experiments and end user training and may, infrequently, be required to spend significant periods of time at sea. Occasional support for colleagues at the Irish National Seismic Network (INSN) is also envisaged. The job will require field work in physically challenging terrestrial environments (e.g. on volcanoes), across the world. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake robust data QC and archive data under FAIR principles.
Extensive previous experience with real-time seismic network operations, terrestrial seismometers, OBS, DAS, ocean hydrophones, failure troubleshooting, seismic networks data processing, data QC and data archiving, are all essential. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working in remote, physically demanding settings, with the ability to independently solve problems as they arise.
