Dean of School of Education

Position:               Dean of School of Education

Contract:              Full-Time, Permanent

Reporting to:       Academic Dean

Location:              Dublin

Job Purpose:

The Dean of School of Education is a senior academic leader of the College and has overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the School of Education’s academic strategy.

The Dean of School of Education supports the effective academic governance of the School to ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements in respect of the provision of programmes and services to students.

As a member of the Academic Leadership Team, the Dean of School of Education works with all departmental heads in the promotion of the quality of developed programmes and assuring and maintaining standards in College services to students.

 

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Developing, implementing, and leading the academic strategy of the School of Education.
  • Promoting effective governance.
  • Supporting periodic re-engagement and institutional review processes with QQI and relevant professional bodies.
  • Participating in the development of the College strategy as a member of the Academic Leadership Team.

 

Pedagogical Excellence

  • Ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, assessment, scholarship and research, and service.
  • Working with the Head of Digital Learning in the promotion and enhancement of the pedagogical strategies of the College and providing leadership in curriculum development.
  • Proactively developing the portfolio of programmes, seeking opportunities for new and modified programmes in response to changes in market demand.

 

Quality Standards

In conjunction with the Registrar:

  • Ensuring the College understands and operates in accordance with all College policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring College compliance with legal and statutory requirements of accrediting authorities
  • Directing the recruitment, admission, and registration of well-qualified students in the programmes and courses of the School.

 

External Relations

  • Developing strong internal/external networks and strategic alliances and promoting the visibility and reputation of the College and the College, nationally and internationally.
  • Responsible for strategically directing and overseeing Internationalisation initiatives as outlined in the College’s Strategic Plan.
  • Engaging with the wider HE sectors nationally and internationally, maintaining currency with prevailing higher education policy and the implications of same for the College, its programmes, students, and potential developments.

 

Research

  • Promoting the development of research activity that capitalises upon the expertise, interests and resources of the College and that contributes to the fulfilment of the College’s mission and of the College’s educational role.
  • Ensuring that appropriately directed quality research, which contributes to the College's research goals is carried out within the School.
  • Ensuring that appropriate mechanisms are in place to monitor and report on research activity and outputs within the School.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • An active researcher, qualified to doctorate level.
  • Self-motivated leader with a proven record in effective team leadership and management and the ability to motivate and empower others.
  • Knowledge and experience in the pedagogy and practice of online and blended learning.
  • Extensive experience of working in higher education in both academic and management roles.
  • Proven experience of working with academic and professional accrediting authorities.
  • Proven experience of programme development leading to major academic awards and / or on profes-sional and academic accreditation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
