Post-Doctoral Researcher, School Of Mathematical Sciences

24 Months, Fixed-Term, Whole-Time Post
Position Summary
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the field of Applied Mathematics (Dynamics of Adaptive Networks and Critical Transitions). The Postdoctoral Researcher will be part of a cross-disciplinary research team including members of the Applied Mathematics Group of the School of Mathematical Sciences and the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at UCC. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be based in the UCC School of Mathematical Sciences.
The aim of the project is to develop new mathematical techniques for the analysis of nonlinear phenomena in adaptive dynamical networks with applications to restoration ecology. Adaptive dynamical networks are mathematical models of coupled systems where both the systems themselves and the links between them evolve over time. An example of such a network is an ecosystem. The new mathematical techniques will advance the fields of adaptive network dynamics and critical transitions and provide the basis for the modelling of real ecosystems, in particular the ecosystem of the Lough Hyne Marine Nature Reserve in West Cork
In addition, the successful applicants will have the unique opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team of applied mathematicians and ecologists at UCC and abroad, to participate in field trips to Lough Hyne, to develop predictive and data-driven theoretical models for real ecosystems, and contribute to the design of novel restoration protocols and conservation measures.
The position is expected to begin as soon as possible after September 1, 2025
Project Title: Adaptive dynamical network solutions to ecological restoration
Post Duration: 24 Months, Whole-Time Post (Note: this was incorrectly advertised as 36 months).
Salary: €45,847 - €52,339 per annum, IUA PD1
