Lecturer in Statistics

UCC wishes to make a lectureship appointment within the School of Mathematical Sciences. This position will play an important role in the development of statistical science and related disciplines in the school. 

 

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in Statistics or in a closely related Data Science area such as Biostatistics or Statistical/Machine Learning, and have a track record of independent research of international standing. Reporting to the Head of School of Mathematical Sciences, the appointee will play a pivotal role in the development of Statistical Science in the School and across the University. This role includes building research capacity in Statistics; supporting the School’s responsibilities for delivery of BSc and MSc programs; growing enrolment to our PhD program; and embedding Statistical research in the various Research Clusters within University College Cork’s Futures Research Initiative, the UCC Futures—AI & Data Analytics Futures being an immediate priority. The opportunity for someone with the right skills to engage in exciting data driven scientific collaborations is significant.  Appointees are expected to develop the research profile of Statistics and to collaborate with colleagues to build external partnerships in order to obtain funding for support of PhD students. Practical commitment to internationalization in teaching and research activities is essential.

 

The School of Mathematical Sciences (https://www.ucc.ie/en/matsci/), has 29.5 permanent academic staff FTEs including Chairs in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics. The discipline of Statistics has research linkage across campus. There are opportunities for developing academic collaboration with other schools in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science, and a number of Cork-based Research Institutes.

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer (Above the Bar)  Salary Scale: €78,401 - €101,534 (Scale B) / €74,592 - €96,455 (Scale A). 

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
