Research Fellow (Postdoctoral Researcher)

Post Status: Specific Purpose Contract – Full-time. 

Research Group / Department / School: AM Healy Research Group, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin 

Location: Panoz Institute, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, Dublin 2, Ireland 

Reports to: Prof. Anne Marie Healy 

Salary: Appointment will be made on the appropriate point of the Research Ireland Post Doctoral Researcher Level 2A salary scale in line with government pay policy i.e. [currently €46,305 to €52,862 per annum], at a point in line with Government Pay Policy, commensurate with experience. Note that appointment for this post cannot be made above Point 3 on the scale (€48,896). 

Hours of Work: 39 hours per week.

 

Post Summary 

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking to appoint a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in the area of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, specifically on the project entitled “Inhalable formulations of novel gallium compounds for the treatment of lung infections”. 

The project is part of the Research Ireland ARC Hub for Therapeutics (ARC Hub for Therapeutics) and involves collaboration between Professors Anne Marie Healy and Carsten Ehrhardt of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and collaborators in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Maynooth University and the University of Pisa, Italy. 

The aim of this project is to develop effective antimicrobial therapies which can be efficiently delivered to the lungs to treat infections that may be resistant to oral therapy. The Research Fellow in TCD will be responsible for undertaking biopharmaceutical studies on human lung cells in vitro and formulation development work for lead compounds. 

The successful candidate will ideally take up the position on 1st October 2025.

 

Person Specification 

Qualifications 

The candidate must have obtained Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, but consideration will also be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in cognate disciplines, such as Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Bioscience, Biochemistry. 

A background in formulation development for pulmonary drug delivery is desirable.
