The Purpose of the Role
The Artificial Intelligence Accountability Lab (AIAL) is seeking to appoint a full time Lab Manager. This position is based in Trinity College Dublin in the ADAPT Centre. The role is for the specified purpose of setting up, coordinating, organising and managing the daily operations of the AIAL research lab. Employment is not offered on an indefinite duration basis as work and the deliverables linked to the AIAL research lab are expected to be achieved within a finite period. Termination of this contract will occur upon completion of the work in which you are engaged, or if the funding stream is terminated or withdrawn by the funding agency.
Main Responsibilities
The Lab Manager will be responsible for coordinating, organising, and managing the research lab. Reporting to the PI, Dr Birhane, the Lab Manager is critical to effective and smooth operations of the research lab and to advancing the vision and objectives of the AIAL across all activities. This includes liaising with internal and external stakeholders – including:
• handling College-wide and administration related tasks
• managing and coordinating with other research centres, collaborators, government bodies, policy makers, civil society groups, media and other relevant stakeholders as required by the research team
• liaising and coordinating with policy makers, civil society, and the public.
• planning and organising recurring internal lab meetings, reading groups, and other necessary activities and events as needed by the lab
• planning workshops and other events with other research centres, collaborators, and other relevant groups as necessary
• tracking, documenting, and organising, research outputs and other activities of lab members
• liaising and coordination with the press and media
The lab manager directly reports to the PI and with all lab members consisting of 5 PhD students and 5 postdocs, and any future incoming researchers. The research team is led and managed by the PI and the role of the lab manager is to provide support to the team as needed and overseen by the PI.
Essential Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, science and technology studies, critical data/information/communication, or a minimum of 8 years’ of relevant project/research management experience and knowledge of working in a previous research environment.
