RESEARCH FELLOW/SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW IN NEUROSCIENCE

APC Microbiome Ireland (APC) 

Specific Purpose Whole Time Appointment

(anticipated duration 5 years)

 

The laboratory of Professor John Cryan at APC Microbiome Ireland is seeking an excellent neuroscience researcher to take up a Research Fellow/ Senior Research Fellow appointment. This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-impact neuroscience research programme focussed on microbiota-gut-brain axis, neuroimmunology, neuropsychopharmacology, neurogastroenterology, and biological psychiatry. The candidate will drive scientific innovation, and shape the strategic future of interdisciplinary research at APC and University College Cork 

The candidate will lead and coordinate a portfolio of interdisciplinary research and strategic activities within the Gut-brain axis research programme, under the mentorship of Professors John F. Cryan and in collaboration with 14 other PIs in the microbiota-gut-brain axis group. The postholder will play a important role in the planning, delivery, and management of complex research projects spanning neuroscience, behavioural pharmacology, electrophysiology, microbiome science, immunology, neurogastroenterology, and metabolomics. The successful candidate will have access to world-class facilities, a vibrant academic and industry-facing network, and the opportunity to mentor the next generation of researchers while shaping the future direction of microbiome-brain research. Key responsibilities include coordinating scientific and operational activities across multiple teams and partners; managing major project milestones, budgets, and reporting; supporting the acquisition of external funding; ensuring scientific excellence and data integrity; and contributing to dissemination, impact, and policy-related outputs.

The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience in project and team management, a strong research track record in neuroscience and/or microbiota-related fields, and excellent communication and organisational skills. Candidates who have secured substantial independent funding through a recognised competitive process (e.g. HRB, SFI, IRC, Wellcome Trust) are eligible for Senior Research Fellow title and appointment.

 Salary: €65,237 - €71,085 per annum, Research Fellow IUA Scale/ €79,356 - €85,162 per annum, Senior Research Fellow IUA Scale.

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
