Sportsturf & Landscape Maintenance Team Leader

The Purpose of the Role 

A vacancy exists for an experienced professional in the position of a Sportsturf & Landscape Maintenance Team Leader in the Campus Maintenance Team within the Estates and Facilities (E&F) Department of Trinity College Dublin. The purpose of the role is to plan and lead the provision of high-quality campus maintenance service across all campuses to the students, staff and visitors of Trinity College Dublin and its wider Estate. 

The Sportsturf & Landscape Maintenance Team Leader will work together with the existing Campus Maintenance Team Leader in leading the experienced in-house team of approximately 15 staff consisting of a senior grounds person, grounds person, operatives, and craft gardeners. The Team Leader will provide the necessary cohesive oversight, leadership and supervision of the team and contracted external partners. The Team Leader will as part of the Leadership Team for Campus Maintenance in delivering the maintenance for all hard and soft landscaping, litter management, Sports Grounds, drainage, and Tree Collection on the estate.

The Campus Maintenance Team, within the E&F Department of Trinity College Dublin ensures a high-quality service across all campuses to the students, staff, and visitors at all times across all of the University’s Estate. 

Acting as a Team Leader within the Campus Maintenance Service delivered by E&F, the Team Leader will lead the team to over 20,000 students, 4,000 staff, and visitors (numbers for which are exceeding 1 million annually) within an Estate that now has over 165 buildings, on 13 sites across Dublin, with a total area of c. 335,000m2. There are 108 acres of land, c. 50 acres of which is at the heart of Dublin City Centre. 

Whilst the role will be delivered as a 39-hour week, the Campus Maintenance Service, in the main, is provided across the Estate 7 days a week between the hours of 07:00 to 19:00. The Team Leader will report directly to the Campus Maintenance Manager and in his / her absence the Campus Services Manager. 

The span of activities carried out by Team Leader makes it incumbent on the post holder to have a wide range of technical knowledge and experience in Sports Turf, Arboriculture, horticulture, trees, Indoor Planting, Soft Landscaping, with an understanding of hard landscape (road and pavements), drainage, etc. 

The Team Leader will liaise with staff, managers, external partners, and stakeholders within the directorate and across the College, it is vital that the Team Leader has excellent communication and organisational skills. The Team Leader will be innovative and flexible in his/her approach to provide the adaptability often required to respond to short notice requests. 

A minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience is required with 3 years attained at a supervisory level.
