Assistant Professor in Russian Studies

Post Status Tenure Track - This position is Tenure Track position which is 5-years in the first instance, permanency is subject to satisfying the tenure requirements.

 

The Purpose of the Role 

The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Russian Studies. This appointment is vital to the effective continuation of the teaching and research activity of the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies and therefore of the School. 

The successful candidate will contribute to, and coordinate at an administrative level existing modules offered by the Department, as well as designing and delivering modules related to that person’s areas of particular specialisation. 

The new appointee will be expected to teach existing and/or new modules in areas such as Russian literature, cinema, visual culture, area studies, new media, popular culture and literary translation.

 

Context 

Trinity College is the only third-level institution on the island where Russian is taught to undergraduate degree level. The Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, therefore, is of strategic interest not just to the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) at Trinity, but to Ireland as a whole. It is vital that we maintain a viable department. 

The position is expected to boost the reputation of the Department (and the School) in the longer term and will help to ensure the continuation of our programmes in Russian and Central and East European languages, cultures and societies. 

Over the last thirty years, our core staff devoted to Russian and Polish studies have contributed to a comprehensive range of degree programmes offered to a wide range of both undergraduate and post-graduate students.

 

Qualifications 

  • Excellent academic record., including a PhD (complete or near to completion). 
  • At least some academic publications in peer reviewed international journals and/or publications of equal standing of recognized originality and value.
