Senior Occupational Therapist – Employment Pathways & Occupational Therapy Operational Support

The Purpose of the Role

This role sits within the Trinity disAbility Hub at Printing House Square and contributes to the delivery of an evidence-informed, occupation-focused service aligned with:

Trinity College Dublin Disability Service is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist with at least three years postgraduate experience to support the ongoing dynamic development of the Disability Service (DS) to meet the ever-changing needs of students with disabilities. The Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) operates at Admin …. Level within the Trinity Disability Service (DS). The role delivers specialist Occupational Therapy supports to students experiencing barriers to participation in academic, placement, and employment-related activities. The post holder conducts disability needs assessments, contributes to Learning Education Needs Summary (LENS) and Professional Learning Education Needs Summary (PLENS) processes, and delivers structured, Occupational Therapy interventions within established service frameworks and procedures.

In addition to clinical casework, the role provides operational coordination support for Occupational Therapy services, ensuring referral processes, documentation, and data monitoring are maintained in line with agreed procedures and professional standards.

The role implements agreed service priorities and contributes specialist professional expertise within defined governance, reporting, and supervisory structures. The post holder does not hold strategic, budgetary, or line management responsibility.

 

Context

The Trinity Disability Service operates a multidisciplinary, needs-assessment-led model of support for disabled students. The Service includes Disability Officers, Occupational Therapists, Assistive Technology staff, and administrative personnel working within established institutional and professional frameworks.

Occupational Therapy within the Disability Service focuses on enabling student participation through occupation-based interventions, particularly where students experience complex functional barriers.

This role contributes to the delivery of Disability Service supports within:

  • Established University governance frameworks
  • Professional regulatory standards (CORU)
  • Agreed service procedures and reporting requirements
  • Defined employment pathway initiatives operated in partnership with Careers and other internal stakeholders

The post holder works as part of the Disability Service team and collaborates with Schools, Student Services, Careers Service, HR, and other relevant units as required within agreed referral and reporting pathways.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications as well as three years postgraduate experience as an Occupational Therapist, on the closing date:  

  1. (i) the BSc (Hons) Degree in Occupational Therapy 

Or 

       (ii) the Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapy

Or

      (iii) the MSc in Occupational Therapy from the University of Limerick  

Or

       (iv) a validated Occupational Therapy qualification at least equivalent to (i), (ii) or (iii) 

And

  1. a suitable standard of professional attainments 

And 

  1. the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
