The Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this specific-purpose post is to contribute to a full-time position as Assistant Professor in Public Health. The successful applicant will contribute to research and to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care (PHPC). In addition, they will serve as Coordinator of the Addiction Research Network Ireland (ARNI), a national collaborative platform currently in development and to be launched within the Institute of Population Health (IPH). ARNI is led and directed by Professor Jo-Hanna Ivers and is intended to become an internationally connected network facilitating partnerships among academic institutions, policymakers, service providers, individuals with lived and living experience, and citizen scientists.
The post holder will work under the strategic leadership of Professor Ivers to coordinate the establishment and launch of ARNI, and to support its subsequent development at national and international levels. The successful candidate will be an excellent academic from addiction science, health policy, public health, health management, or a related social science discipline. They will demonstrate extensive experience in coordinating interdisciplinary and intersectoral research initiatives, alongside substantial postgraduate teaching experience, including postgraduate supervision. A strong track record of research achievement is required, evidenced by high-quality peer-reviewed publications and success in securing competitive research funding.

The Institute of Population Health (IPH) is an interdisciplinary institute located within the Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care in the School of Medicine. The Institute has a strong and active research and teaching portfolio, with a demonstrated track record of influencing health systems and informing policy decisions for the public good. This post represents an important and strategic role within the Institute, where research and teaching are central to its mission, including educating the next generation of addiction practitioners, researchers, and leaders, and supporting the development of high-quality PhD candidates.
The Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Public Health on a specific-purpose contract. The successful candidate will coordinate the Addiction Research Network Ireland (ARNI), working under the leadership of Professor Jo-Hanna Ivers, and will contribute to research, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, within the Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care.
Qualifications
• PhD (or equivalent) in Public Health, Health Policy, Health Management, Addiction Science, or a related discipline.
• Strong academic publication record in peer-reviewed international journals.
• Experience leading or coordinating national or international research networks or collaborations, including success in securing national, European, and/or international funding.
