Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate with Paediatrics/Physiology at the University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded by Research Ireland-Child Health Foundation partnership and is available from Sept 2026 to April 2029 (30 months).
Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) are devastating early onset severe neurodevelopmental disorders. There is no cure, due to the inaccessibly of human brain and poor disease modelling. This advert is for a full-time post-doc for neuronal modelling and therapeutics of KCNQ2/3- and other DEE. From human patient-derived iPSC lines established at Galway already the project will explore 2D/3D-modelling for therapeutics, using state-of-the art techniques (e.g. neuronal induction, e-phys patch, MEA, calcium imaging, -omics, with therapeutic application) using facilities on-site at University of Galway. The project is highly collaborative, with international partnerships. The main sites are at the Human Biology Building (Physiology) and Human Biosciences (REMEDI), at University of Galway; in conjunction with Clinical Paediatrics.
Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate salary scale €46,805 - €59,654 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
