Senior Academic Developer (AI in Education)

School/Department:            Centre for Academic Practice, Trinity Teaching and Learning, Academic Services Division

Job Category and Level:      Professional, Administrative & Support, Fixed term contract

Hours of Post:                       35 hours per week

Closing Date:                         21-May-2026 12:00

The Purpose of the Role

The position of Senior Academic Developer offers an exciting opportunity to lead transformational educational initiatives aligned to Trinity’s Strategic Plan 2025-2030. Specifically, and aligned with Trinity’s commitment to deliver “a considered and critical Artificial Intelligence (AI) education and learning environment”1 , the post-holder will lead educational initiatives which build institutional capacity to shape teaching, learning and assessment in an artificial intelligence (AI) era. The postholder will drive the development of pedagogical approaches that integrate AI tools meaningfully, responsibly, ethically and in ways that enhance learning and teaching; support staff to redesign authentic, AI‑literate assessments; foster critical engagement with AI; advance pedagogical research; and contribute to the development of robust institutional governance, policy and evaluation frameworks. In doing so, the post-holder will ensure that Trinity remains a leader in evidence‑based, ethical and future‑focused education in an AI era.

Context

The Centre for Academic Practice, a central unit within Trinity Teaching & Learning (TT&L), advances excellence in teaching, learning and assessment by fostering a university-wide culture grounded in scholarship, critical enquiry and collaboration. Working closely with College Academic Officers, the Centre leads strategic teaching and learning initiatives, progresses research in academic practice, and provides a comprehensive suite of research-informed professional development for staff. Aligned with Trinity’s Strategic Plan Thrive and its successor strategies, the Centre contributes to institutional priorities for educational excellence, innovation and an enhanced student experience.

Reporting to the Head of the Centre for Academic Practice, this role will lead initiatives that build institutional capacity to not only adapt to AI but to actively shape educational futures through evidence‑based, ethical and strategic innovation.

This role is for a fixed term contract and will expire on 30th August 2029.

The duration of this contract is limited to the above fixed-term period as the role is required to support the delivery of teaching and learning initiatives linked to Trinity’s Strategic Plan [2025– 2030], with a focus on Artificial Intelligence . The role is not offered on a permanent basis as it is linked to a defined phase of activity which is expected to be complete within the current Strategic Plan. The continuation of the role beyond the fixed-term period will therefore be subject to a review of institutional priorities and operational requirements within Trinity Teaching and Learning. The role is also externally funded and does not form part of the University’s core funding and is available for a finite period only.
