The Purpose of the Role 

Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, invites applications for a Specific Purpose Contract Assistant Professor in the School of Education. This employment is for the purpose of filling an Assistant Professor in Psychology of Education vacancy on a temporary basis pending the return of the postholder from authorised leave. Employment is not offered on an indefinite duration basis as the original postholder is expected to return.

 

Context 

For over twenty years, post-graduate modules in Psychology of Education have been offered as part of the Master in Education, Professional Master of Education and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. These modules are core to all programmes and are an accreditation requirement for the Professional Master of Education and the Bachelor of Music Education. These programmes are the major flagship programmes of the school and Psychology of Education is a critical component in each of them. 

The Assistant Professor in Psychology of Education will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in the field of Psychology of Education in Trinity College Dublin’s School of Education. The successful candidate will work with well-established teams on our initial teacher education, masters and doctoral programmes in this critical area and support the future development of the field as part of the School's strategic plan. They will have a strong background in Psychology applied to education and be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s postgraduate taught and research programmes including supervision at masters level. They will undertake research, knowledge generation and dissemination in the field of Psychology applied to education.

It is essential the successful candidate be able to demonstrate potential for: 

• Excellence in postgraduate teaching; 

• Expertise in research supervision; 

• Research excellence, expertise and publication; and 

• Excellent inter-personal skills. 

The successful candidate will report to the Head of School and will work closely with colleagues to build on existing research and teaching strengths within the School in this area, and extend School capacity in making a proactive contribution to policy and practice across diverse educational settings.

 

Qualifications (essential) 

• Doctoral qualification (completed or near completion), either directly in Psychology as applied to education or in a closely related field involving significant overlap.
