The Purpose of the Role 

Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, invites applications for a Specific Purpose Contract Assistant Professor in the School of Education. This specific purpose role is subject to the substantive post-holder taking up a College Officership and is for the duration of their term in this College Officership.

 

Context 

For over twenty years, post-graduate modules in Educational Assessment have been offered as part of the Master in Education, Professional Master of Education and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. These modules are core to all programmes and are an accreditation requirement for the Professional Master of Education and the Bachelor of Music Education. These programmes are the major flagship programmes of the school and Educational Assessment is a critical component in each of them. 

The Assistant Professor in Educational Assessment will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in the field of Educational Assessment in Trinity College Dublin’s School of Education. The successful candidate will work with well-established teams on our initial teacher education, masters and doctoral programmes in this critical area and support the future development of the field as part of the School's strategic plan. They will have a strong background in Educational Assessment and be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s postgraduate taught and research programmes including supervision at masters and doctoral levels. They will undertake research, knowledge generation and dissemination in the field of Educational Assessment.

It is essential the successful candidate be able to demonstrate potential for: 

• Research excellence, expertise and significant publications; 

• Excellence in postgraduate teaching; 

• Expertise in research supervision and mentoring at PhD level; and 

• Excellent inter-personal skills. 

The successful candidate will report to the Head of School and will work closely with colleagues to support the further development of Educational Assessment in the School of Education.

 

Qualifications (essential) 

• Doctoral qualification (completed or near completion), either directly in Educational Assessment/Measurement/Evaluation or in a closely related field involving significant overlap, and with a very good understanding of relevant educational organisations.
