The Purpose of the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Teaching Fellow in Restoration Ecology. This specific purpose post will cover the postholders while on academic leave during semester 1 of the 2026/27 academic year. This Teaching Fellow position will contribute to the teaching in the School of Natural Sciences. We have particular interest in recruiting an applied ecologist with expertise in restoration ecology (rewilding), biodiversity, and social-ecological systems. Individuals holding this title will normally have recently completed or be close to completion of their PhD. 

 

Context

The position will be based in the Discipline of Botany within the School of Natural Sciences. Staff in Botany currently work on a wide range of plants and fungi, and their interactions with other organisms, in the context of global environmental change and societal challenges. The Teaching Fellow will contribute to teaching in the School of Natural Sciences, at undergraduate level, by coordinating and teaching one module per semester, as well as contributing into other Botany modules, including field courses, and inputting to other relevant modules in the Environmental Science & Engineering Course (TR064) and Biological & Biomedical Sciences stream of the Science Course (TR060). They will also coordinate three other modules at MSc level, contributing to the School of Natural Sciences taught MSc in Biodiversity & Conservation, Environmental Sciences, Smart & Sustainable Cities, and Trinity Business School taught MSc in Responsible Business and Sustainability. The candidate will supervise final year undergraduate and MSc student research projects and desk studies. It is envisaged that the candidate’s experience will be relevant to current national and international priorities in applied ecology. 

 

Person Requirements

The role-holder will contribute to building the excellent reputation for teaching in the Discipline of Botany, School of Natural Sciences, E3 and Trinity College. They will also contribute to Trinity’s Sustainability Strategy as well as Trinity’s commitment to Education for Sustainable Development.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong academic record and be close to completing or have completed a Ph.D. in Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Qualification in third level teaching would be advantageous, but not compulsory. 
  • Academic publications in peer reviewed international journals and/or publications of equal standing of recognised originality and value, that are either published or in the pipeline, are advantageous but not compulsory.
