Commercialisation Researcher,UCD Mech & Materials Eng,24 months

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Commercialisation Researcher within UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. 

I-Form, the Research Ireland Centre for Advanced Manufacturing is seeking an experienced researcher to work on a collaborative research project with an I-Form partner medical device company based in County Limerick. The aim of the research is to optimise the additive manufacturing (AM) production process chain for efficiency, productivity and sustainability, while delivering unique product performance. This research will be facilitated through the use of advanced process monitoring technologies along with data analysis. AI tools will be used to increase understanding of process and product anomaly risks, interactions between the printing process and post-processing, as well as the product flow through the factory. The goal is to significantly reduce cost and resource usage required for production using AM processing for small batch, medical devices whilst reducing the time required for New Product Introduction (NPI) activities. 

This research position builds on your previous experience, involving the execution of a defined research programme under the supervision of a Principal Investigator. The role will also involve significant time spent at the partner company. The researcher work is co-funded by the I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (www.i-form.ie) through Taighde Éireann - Research Ireland (formerly Science Foundation Ireland) and the industry partner. 

Salary: €46,300 - €65,880 Per Annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Permanent Whole-Time Post

UCC wishes to appoint to the role of Lectureship in Public Health Nursing. The appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching, assessment and programme development and administration at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as engage in relevant research. The successful appointee will hold a professional midwifery qualification, have held or hold a registration (or be eligible to register) in Public Health Nursing with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. Applicants will be expected to have an academic qualification to Masters level and be registered for or have completed a PhD / Doctorate. Applicants also expected to have considerable community health nursing experience.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery was established in 1994 and since then a wide range of programmes have been developed at both undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels. In addition, the School has a growing suite of Continuing Professional Development modules supporting life-long learning. Since 2012, the School has actively engaged in international recruitment and now has a growing body of international students. The School now has over 1,300 students and is one of the largest in the University. Appointment may be made on the Lecturer (Above the Bar) Salary Scale: €78,401 - €101,534 (Scale B) / €74,592 - €96,455 (Scale A).

Research Assistant in Environmental Technology and Plant-Soil Ecology

Post Summary 

This post is a research assistant role in the Plant-Soil Biogeochemistry group at Trinity College Dublin (Botany Discipline). The holder will primarily contribute to a project about understanding the controls of soil respiration – the release of climate-warming CO2 from soil systems via its component sources such as roots and microbes. You will perform a mix of field, lab, and engineering tasks and support activity in our interdisciplinary working group. We do not expect applicants to necessarily fill all these competencies at onset but be able to grow into them through the role. 

We have developed custom-built ‘minirhizotron’ root imaging instruments to image roots in situ. This role will work with these instruments, adapt them for new experimental set ups, and run them in ecosystem experiments and support fieldwork to validate the data from these instruments with classical ecological / soil science techniques. The role includes building, assembling, and maintaining instruments based on existing designs. The successful candidate will follow protocols and work closely with colleagues to deploy and troubleshoot sensor systems in field conditions. Prior engineering or electronics experience is not necessarily required, although technical curiosity and willingness to learn are highly valued. 

Field sites are in Ireland, although there may be potential for additional field work abroad in the UK and EU. The role may include contributing to the wider dissemination of the technology to other users, potentially through early-stage commercial development or artistic and public outreach collaborations. The successful candidate will be embedded in a dynamic and interdisciplinary project team, including scientists at different career stages. The exact tasks of the role may change during the project.
