Detailed Project Description.

The TAILORED MANUFACTURING FOR SAFE, SUSTAINABLE OFFSHORE WIND TURBINE SUPPORT STRUCTURE MATERIALS (TRANSFORRM) project, funded by Research Ireland and Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), aims to develop a multi-scale, process-structure-property-performance (PSPP) framework for manufacturing-informed design of safe, sustainable structures for upscaling of offshore wind turbines (OWTs). TRANSFORRM will develop methods to achieve increased safety, reduced cost and longer life for offshore renewable energy (ORE) structures (e.g. monopiles, jackets) via through-process design and thermo-mechanical controlled processing (TMCP) and welding of state-of-the-art high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel. The specific focus will be on increased material strength and increased resistance to fatigue crack initiation (FCI) and growth in welded connections, via control of manufacturing-induced microstructure. In partnership with industrial collaborators, TRANSFORRM will thus provide the key building blocks for a digital twin for OWTs and novel structural design and condition monitoring techniques. TRANSFORRM will involve close collaboration with relevant key national and international academic, research and industry partners. The position may involve international travel for collaboration visits (up to 6 months in duration) and conference attendance. International collaborators include IMDEA Materials Institute (Madrid, PFM and multi-scale modelling), Imperial College London (residual stresses and FCG in welds), Universities of Plymouth (offshore renewables), Nottingham (fixed OWT design, analysis), Strathclyde (floating OWT design, analysis) and DTU Denmark (Design Codes and Standards), as well as Univ of Limerick (EBSD, CPFE).

Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher / Research Associate salary scale €46,305 - €59,063 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.

The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. Research Assistant Clinical Therapies – Speech and Hearing

Document
Candidate Brief_315.pdf3.88 MB
Vacancy Description

This position is to work as a research assistant (as a member of a team) on a programme of research led by Dr Pauline Frizelle, at UCC that will take place across 7 countries (Ireland, the UK, the US, Australia, Finland, Croatia, Austria).

The aim of this programme of research is to ensure that interventions to support language and communication deliver maximum benefit for children with or at risk for developmental language disorder (D)LD. To do this we aim to develop a set of internationally accepted reporting guidelines that will a) specify the intervention characteristics, participant characteristics and outcomes in children’s oral language intervention studies b) reflect the perspectives of all relevant stakeholders c) enable translation of research into practice through comprehensive training d) maximise the potential for meta-analysis and international collaboration.

Our programme of research includes a multi-national core team of representatives from the key groups who will either use or be influenced by the final reporting guidance. We will conduct reviews of the literature (which present typologies of intervention characteristics in (D)LD and related disorders); carry out focus groups; and use systematic consensus methods such as e-Delphi, nominal group technique, and consensus development conferences.

Through the development and adoption of standard intervention reporting criteria, we aim to reduce research waste, and to overcome barriers for practitioners, services and policymakers in applying intervention evidence to practice. International consensus on intervention reporting, which incorporates key elements of relevance across stakeholders, would capitalise on the growth in intervention studies to enable new methodologies of data pooling, meta-analyses and cross-study comparisons.

Consequently, it would significantly accelerate progress in (D)LD intervention research and improve health; educational and economic outcomes for all those with or at risk for (D)LD (in Ireland and internationally) through more efficient and effective intervention approaches.

Further information can be found on the following website: https://www.ucc.ie/en/ticld/

Project Title:  Maximising the benefits of intervention research to support language and communication in children.
