The Purpose of the Role
The School seeks a scholar with a PhD and a strong research background in any area of the literature of the Long 18th-century.
Context
The School of English at Trinity is one of the oldest in Britain or Ireland, and in 1867 it founded the first ever Chair in English Literature on this island. The School continues to be a leader in the discipline. It was ranked 7th in Europe in QS World University Subject Rankings 2024, is now ranked 27th in the world (QS 2025).
This is a major research and teaching area for the School. In addition to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels, the successful candidate will be expected to have a strong publication record for their career stage and to contribute to the School’s culture of postgraduate research and supervision in this area. Duties will also include undertaking administrative roles as directed by the Head of School.
Qualifications
• Excellent academic record and a strong research background.
• A PhD in any area of the literature of the Long 18th-century
