Assistant Professor in Russian Studies for Business Communication

Post Status Tenure Track - This position is Tenure Track position which is 5-years in the first instance, permanency is subject to satisfying the tenure requirements.

 

The Purpose of the Role 

The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Russian Studies with a specialisation in Business Communication. This appointment is essential to the continued delivery and strategic development of the teaching and research activities of the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, and by extension, of the School as a whole. 

The successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s existing teaching activities and will assume an important coordinating role at an administrative level. In addition, the appointee will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of new modules aligned with their areas of expertise. 

The potential candidate will be expected to teach and coordinate core modules, including Russian Language for Business (Advanced Level), Contemporary Russian Society (with a focus on socioeconomic and political developments), supervision of Case Study Projects, and Russian Language for Advanced Learners, particularly native and heritage speakers.

 

Context 

Trinity College is the only third-level institution on the island where Russian is taught to undergraduate degree level. The Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, therefore, is of strategic interest not just to the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies (SLLCS) at Trinity, but to Ireland as a whole. It is vital that we maintain a viable department. Since its establishment in 1992, the Department’s core staff have made a substantial contribution to the design, development, and delivery of this multidisciplinary program. The appointee is expected to play a key role in ensuring the long-term continuity of the program by safeguarding its sustainability and supporting its strategic growth.

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent academic record and have completed a Ph.D., in relevant field.
  •  A qualification in teaching Russian as a Foreign Language and experience in teaching Russian for Business purposes will be a distinct advantage.
  • At least some academic publications in peer reviewed international journals and/or publications of equal standing of recognized originality and value.
