Clinical Skills Tutor (Mental Health Nursing)

School/Department:             School of Nursing and Midwifery

Job Category and Level:       Academic; Nurse Tutor

Hours of Post:                        39 hours per week

The Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this post is to teach practical clinical skills and theory in mental health nursing to students and registered nurses in the Trinity Simulation Suite on the St James’s Campus, online, in classroom settings, and in designated clinical practice areas. The Clinical Tutor will primarily contribute to undergraduate teaching while also supporting postgraduate education through supervision and mentoring as directed by the Head of School. This role plays a vital part in fostering student development and advancing the School’s commitment to excellence in mental health nursing education and research.

Garda vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for this post.

Context

The School of Nursing and Midwifery aims to provide leadership in multi-professional healthcare research, education, and practice at local, national, and international levels. We strongly support the principle of equal access and encourage all students and staff to achieve their full potential within an open, liberal, and facilitative environment.

A state-of-the-art simulation suite for student nurses and midwives has been established at the Trinity Centre for Health Sciences on the St James’s Hospital campus. Over the years, nurse and midwife education has evolved significantly, with simulated learning environments now firmly embedded as a core component of clinical education. Nursing and midwifery students at Trinity can engage in a wide range of clinical procedures and scenarios across acute and community adult nursing, child nursing, mental health nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, and operating department practice at the Trinity Simulation Suite. By combining advanced simulation mannequins, livestreaming video debriefing, and evidence-based teaching, simulated learning provides a safe, structured space where students can develop their clinical skills under the supervision of qualified, discipline-specific clinical tutors. Student performance is supported through observation and recorded sessions for self-assessment and reflective learning. The school requires a candidate to contribute to, and grow, online teaching both in relation to simulation, clinical skills development and theoretical learning.
