The Purpose of the Role
The Professor in General Nursing will provide strategic and operational leadership to support the expansion and development of general nursing research and practice at Trinity College Dublin. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Discipline of General Nursing and to interdisciplinary curricular teaching, supervision and mentoring. The post will expand on current research activity, and on the research priorities of the School and the General Nursing Discipline. This post provides an exciting opportunity to advance developments in the field of General Nursing and its components, which are of strategic focus for the Discipline and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The successful candidate must have a depth of knowledge pertinent to the role and will be expected to attract research funding and attain scholarly achievements. The individual will also be required to connect with, complement, and enhance the existing strengths within the General Nursing Discipline and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

The School’s Strategic Plan 2023-2030 “Transforming healthcare and creating a better future for all” provides for a world-leading educational Programme to prepare nursing, midwifery and other health professionals for high quality, evidence-based care delivery. The post of Professor in General Nursing arises from the intent to strengthen and advance the School’s leading position nationally and internationally and to support, sustain, and further enhance it as a distinguished leader in general nursing education. The successful candidate will be required to develop a significant research agenda in General Nursing and will be expected to undertake teaching, research, research supervision, publication, academic administration, in addition to other scholarly activities. They will contribute to general nursing through the activities of the Trinity Centre for Practice and Healthcare Innovation and/or the other research themes in the school.
Person Requirements
The role-holder must fulfil the following essential requirements.
Qualifications
• PhD degree or Professional Doctorate (essential).
• Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or, for overseas candidates, the ability to register with NMBI as a Registered General Nurse (essential).
• Registered, or eligible to register on the Nurse Tutor’s division with the NMBI or hold an equivalent teaching and learning qualification (desirable).
• Minimum 3-5 year’s clinical experience in general nursing practice.
