Terms & Conditions: Appointment will be made on the IUA University Research Assistant Salary Scales (point 1 – point 5) in line with Government Pay Policy [€33,291 to €36,305 per annum]. Specific appointment will be made subject to negotiation, and the experience level of the candidate.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Post Summary
The Ryan Lab at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) is seeking applicants for the position of Research Assistant, to act as Lab Manager for the group. The research group, led by Prof. Tomás Ryan, focuses on investigating the fundamental neurobiology of memory engram formation and function.
The group is integrative in approach, combining experimental techniques such as optogenetics, engram labelling technology, mouse transgenics, molecular biology, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and behavioural experimentation in order to develop understanding of how information is encoded in memory engrams.
The person in this role but work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong capacity for initiative, and ability to exercise good judgment to prioritize and accomplish multiple responsibilities.
The successful applicant will be an adaptable, growth-orientated person who is excited to work collaboratively with a diverse group of scientists, and will serves as the liaison between the lab and many offices within Trinity College Dublin. The responsibilities of this role with a high level of attention to detail, proactiveness, and social awareness.
A very large degree of flexibility will be expected from the successful candidate in order to help run an effective and constantly evolving research environment. Training and mentorship will be provided where necessary.
The successful applicant will join an inter-disciplinary and dynamic research team aimed at generating novel and progressive insights into the neuroscience of memory. The position is tenable for 2 years in the first instance (subject to a probationary period), with the possibility for renewal and/or progression to graduate research.
Active mentorship will be provided should the individual wish to pursue a research career following the conclusion of this position. To this end, the successful candidate will be supported to attend international conferences with the rest of the research team.

Qualifications
Applicants should have at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. neuroscience, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology, or any related discipline.
Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable) Essential:
• Ability to work positively with others.
• Strong undergraduate science background. Desirable:
• Research lab experience.
• Administrative experience.
