The Substance Use and Mental Health Interventions using Digital Technology (SUMIT) project team formed and initiated a strategic all-Ireland engagement process over the last two

years to identify common shared challenges for people living with substance use (drugs & alcohol) and associated mental health issues (PWSUMHI). The team and their collaborators assessed  the potential of digital interventions to address these. SUMIT’S engagement work has identified four  key shared local service issues;

  1. Barriers to Accessing Care and  Support
  2. Service Centric rather than Person Cantered Care
  3. Lack of Joined Up Care for PWSUMHI
  4. Service Capacity & Digital Skills

OBJECTIVE - Within a cross-border test bed environment, SUMIT will expand digital inclusion and develop 3 digitally enabled products for 1,500 PWSUMHI, increasing access to support and treatment whilst enhancing existing services. SUMIT is a test of change, which will inform health and care transformation, and wider policy and strategic considerations for future digitally enabled health and social care services.

The team at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) will lead the research and evaluation of the SUMIT project under the direction of Professor Catherine Comiskey, Principal Investigator.  The team now wish to recruit a Post-Doctoral Fellow to lead the day-to-day research and evaluation of the work.
