Research Programme Officer

The Purpose of the Role 

The AIB Trinity Climate Hub, hosted by the School of Natural Sciences, is seeking to appoint a Research Programme Officer. This post will cover the research programme of the Buckley Lab which will include researchers in the AIB Trinity Climate Hub, as well as Trinity-based researchers in the Co-Centre for Climate, Biodiversity and Water and the All-Island Climate and Biodiversity Research Network. The postholder will work closely with Professor Yvonne Buckley, who directs all three of these initiatives. 

Additionally, they will work with researchers, partners, and funders, providing logistical support to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with institutional and funding requirements. They will arrange researcher development and training activities, manage administrative processes such as procurement and internal communications, and will act as liaison between the researchers and other operational staff. 

The Research Programme Officer will be employed by Trinity under the AIB Trinity Climate Hub and will be co-located together with the Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water and the All-Island Climate and Biodiversity Research Network offices within Trinity. They will report to the AIB Trinity Climate Hub Manager, Amanda Mathieson.

 

Context 

The AIB Trinity Climate Hub is an AIB-sponsored initiative which commenced on 1st December 2024 and will run to December 2029 (5 years). 

Under the direction of Professor Yvonne Buckley and management of Amanda Mathieson, the AIB Trinity Climate Hub will strengthen and expand this world class research environment for the benefit of society and the planet. The AIB Trinity Climate Hub will focus on academic research, public engagement and education. 

Increased capacity for excellent research on climate, biodiversity and water is urgently needed to keep up with societal, economic and government demands for new technologies and expert advice on interventions for sustainability and just societal transition. This will be supported by the Research Programme Officer’s role. 

This is a specific purpose contract. The specific purpose of this employment is to bring together and support the smooth operation of research within the hub and its adjacent initiatives. Employment is not offered on an indefinite basis, as the role is tied to specific strategic activities expected to be completed within a defined period. The contract will terminate upon completion of the work or if the funding stream is withdrawn or terminated by the funder.
