The Purpose of the Role: 

The School of Medicine wishes to make a cross disciplinary clinical/ academic appointment at Senior Lecturer/ Consultant level to the disciplines of Medical Education and Pharmacology & Therapeutics. 

The specific purpose of this post is to fill a Senior Lecturer / Consultant vacancy on a temporary basis pending the return of the postholder from a period of secondment. 

The postholder will ensure high-quality coherent delivery of existing activities across teaching, research, and clinical practice. As well as developing their own research interests they will play a critical role in strengthening the relationship between the School of Medicine, clinical faculty, and corporate leadership at St James’s Hospital.

 

Context: 

The school requires an adaptable and highly motivated candidate to support and lead cutting edge clinical research and education, to aid the development of curricula, the transition to internship, the strengthening of advanced therapeutic practice and to support relationships with new and existing partners. 

The role will be based between Trinity College School of Medicine and St James’s Hospital with an 0.5/0.5 Clinical/Academic FTE allocation. Within the school of Medicine, the role is cross disciplinary between the discipline of Medical Education and the discipline of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. At the Clinical site, the postholder will work closely with a multidisciplinary CPT clinical services team including consultants and non-consultant hospital doctors’ administrative staff and clinical nurse specialists. Within the Wellcome-HRB Clinical Research Facility (CRF) the postholder will work closely with the senior management team to improve access to novel high quality experimental medicines research. 

Clinical Practice elements include specialist hypertension and clinical pharmacology services including a contribution to General Internal Medicine. Educational activities include delivery of undergraduate didactic and clinical teaching, therapeutics, practical prescribing, preparation of students for the prescribing safety exam, preparation for internship (sub-internship), the transition into practice, internship, and curricular reform programmes. 

The post holder will join a highly successful research team at the Wellcome-HRB clinical Research Facility which prioritises research collaborations that enable access to complex and early phase clinical trials and advanced therapies. They will work closely with clinical partners, national and international colleagues, and industry to identify and address clinical and educational research questions of national and global significance.

 

Essential Qualifications: 

• MB 

• Formal recognition of capacity in Medical Education e.g. ICET fellowship. 

• CCST in General Internal Medicine/ Pharmacology and Therapeutics/ or a cognate discipline. E.g. 

• MRCPI or FRCPI
