1-year MRes studentship: Stakeholder co-created Scenario modelling of renewable gases for future integrated energy systems in Ireland (ReGasIn)

We invite applications for a one-year funded Masters by Research (MRes) studentship at the School of Applied Social Studies at University College Cork (UCC). This is part of ReGasIn, a Research Ireland – Gas Networks Ireland Innovation Challenge Funded project led by the International Energy Research Centre (IERC) at Tyndall National Institute. The project aims to develop an impactful method to engage with stakeholders on bioenergy/renewable gases (biomethane and green hydrogen) in order to address integration challenges and to achieve the decarbonization targets of Ireland’s gas network and the Climate Action Plan goals. 

The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary team of social scientists in UCC and researchers in Tyndall to identify and analyse the understandings and concerns of a diversity of stakeholders. This includes expert interviews with government bodies, local authorities, policy makers, industry, and NGOs, and engagement with residents and community groups.

Funding

The MRes position is funded for 1 year. It includes a stipend of €25,000 per annum, with tuition fees covered.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential:

• A minimum 2.1 Honours Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in Social Science or other closely related discipline.
• Strong interest in community research and climate change.
• Demonstrated research skills, such as experience with interviews, focus groups, surveys and analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of mixed method research design and analysis.
• Familiarity with research and statistical software packages such as Qualtrics and SPSS.
