Post-Doctoral Researcher, APC Microbiome Ireland, Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience

22 Months, Fixed-Term, Whole-Time Post
Position Summary
Applications are invited for the role of Post-Doctoral Researcher within APC Microbiome Ireland and the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience.
Aburto Lab at APC Microbiome Ireland/Dept. of Anatomy and Neuroscience wish to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher. The project aims to understand how gut microbial signals modulate radial glial fate and dynamics and how this can be a modulator for the neurodevelopmental phenotype derived out of genetic mutations. We will use in vivo an ex vivo models. The appointee will be focusing on performing confocal microscopy of radial glial cells, RNA sequencing on the developing cortex and CSF metabolomics to understand how microbial signals at the CSF could modulate RG at the ventricular interface. Experience in mouse handling, computational biology such as RNA sequencing and metabolomics and analysis of large datasets will be highly valued.
The appointee will work directly with the Aburto Lab group. Our work focuses on the role of the gut microbiota in brain development, and main techniques we use are mouse experiments with microbiota manipulations, brain histology, immunofluorescence, RNA extraction and analysis, cell culture, tissue culture and microscopy. Experience in these disciplines will be highly valued.
