Post-Doctoral Researcher/Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the Environmental Research Institute

Applications are invited for the role of Post-Doctoral Researcher or Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher within the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences and the
Environmental Research Institute. This position can be filled at either Post-Doctoral or Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher level, depending on qualification and experience of the successful candidate.
Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Researcher or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in our team on the Just Transition project: Demonstrating high value commercial bio-products at a circular IMTA site (CIRC_IMTA_DEMO). The CIRC_IMTA_DEMO project is an ambitious, commercially focused, interdisciplinary bioeconomy project centered on a peatland-based integrated, multitrophic (IMTA) fish farm in the Irish Midlands.
The position focuses on duckweed cultivation and stakeholder engagement. Internationally, there has been strong interest in the development of Lemnaceae (Duckweed sp.) biomass as a source of plant protein, and as a replacement of soybean in feeds. Rapid growth, high protein content and a desirable amino acid profile are amongst the key features that make duckweed species promising candidates as a native protein source for Ireland.
The key tasks of the Postdoctoral/Senior Postdoctoral Researcher are to optimise outdoor duckweed cultivation on wastewater produced by aquaculture activities, and to develop a vibrant programme of training and engagement activities for stakeholders. Excellent networking and communication skills are essential.
The Postdoctoral/Senior Postdoctoral Researcher will be based in the Irish Midlands and needs to be highly independent, creative and self-motivated. Good technical skills and a valid driving licence (EU or Ireland) are essential.
Due to the remote location of the UCC laboratory in Mt Lucas (Co. Offaly), a full driving licence issued in Ireland, UK, EU or a recognised state is essential.
Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEIResearcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association
