Research Support Officer -Data Analyst INFANT Research Centre

The INFANT Research Centre at University College Cork (UCC) is dedicated to maternal and child health research. The overarching vision of INFANT is to advance maternal and child health translational research and to place Ireland to the forefront of this field.  INFANT is focused on delivering scientific excellence and impact through a range of activities in academic, translational and commercial areas.

INFANT is now accepting applications for a Data Analyst with data analysis and management skills, and strong systems analysis and declarative development experience to work on the Elevate Programme. The INFANT Centre leads the ELEVATE Programme which is a 5-year programme is focused on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of brain injury and cerebral palsy (CP) in infants during the period of maximum neuroplasticity (up to 2 years of age). The ELEVATE Programme has been jointly funded by Research Ireland and the Cerebral Palsy Foundation through the SFI Strategic Partnership Programme.

The Data Analyst will work to support a number of projects across the programme that interact with data from the Maternal and Newborn Clinical Management System (MN-CMS) - either through the analysis of this data, integration with its source systems or specification of improvements for its functionality.

  • We will use Machine Learning to identify factors in pregnancy, labour and in the early neonatal period that represent increased risks for CP. The data analyst will work with clinical experts to identify the variables required, to analyse the data extracted, to identify areas for possibly improvement in the source systems in order to specify change requests in the future. In this work, the analyst will need to be able to visualise the data for colleagues to interpret it, make recommendations on actions to improve the data and implement those changes. Skills such as extraction, transformation and loading will be necessary as well as the ability to link records.
  • We will develop a database for storing existing research data on infants with CP or high-risk for CP, collected across the projects in the ELEVATE. The data analyst will specify the requirements for the research database, work with experts to define interfaces, develop the database in RedCap and work with colleagues to specify interfaces to a register for people with CP. The analyst will develop the REDCap platform to support the multiple studies in ELEVATE and ensure that the design allows for the efficient use of data across studies and between systems to minimise data capture effort and the potential for error.
  • The data analyst will work with clinical anti-natal and post-natal experts to identify the ‘minimum dataset’ required to improve the data for future research studies. Specifications for change requests to the MN-CMS will be developed as well as specifications for the integration to MN-CMS.
  • The data analyst will support other colleagues across the programme with matters relating to REDCap, data analysis and machine learning.
