Position Summary
Applications are invited for the role of Research Support Officer (Project Manager) within APC Microbiome Ireland.
APC Microbiome Ireland, established in 2003 with funding by Taighde Éireann (Research Ireland) and key industry partners, is a world-leading research centre in gut microbiota science. A collaboration between University College Cork (UCC) and Teagasc Moorepark, APC has driven major discoveries, published over 3,500 peer-reviewed articles, and engaged with over 20 industry partners. With a team of over 300 researchers, scientists, and postgraduate students, APC is at the forefront of microbiome research and innovation.
This position spans multiple interdisciplinary projects under the theme “Endo-Histo-Omics”, focusing on intestinal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, neoplastic diseases, Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, and precision medicine. The research will be conducted across APC Microbiome Ireland, Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, and Tyndall National Institute.
UCC is an accredited research organisation and can establish hosting agreements for third-country (non-EEA) nationals conducting research at the university.
The Project Manager will be responsible for:
- Research & Lab Oversight – Managing research activities, laboratory operations, and team coordination.
- Project & Strategic Management – Overseeing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Sample Management – Managing the end-to-end process of sample collection, transport of patients to the laboratory, and coordination of sample processing to ensure high-quality research outcomes.
- Clinical Data Management & Governance – Overseeing the collection, processing, storage, and security of clinical data, ensuring compliance with GDPR and research ethics regulations.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Liaising with industry partners, clinical staff, and researchers across multiple sites and countries.
- Grant & Report Preparation – Supporting grant applications, research publications, and reporting.

Salary: €58,000 per annum, Personal Rate
