Technical Officer, School of Chemistry

Permanent  Whole Time Post

 

Applications are invited for a full-time Technical Officer position in the School of Chemistry. The School delivers undergraduate degrees in Chemistry, Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds, Chemistry with Forensic Science and Chemical Physics (jointly with the School of Physics), and taught MSc programmes in Analytical Chemistry, as well as providing modules on a wide range of other degree programmes. The School has 28 Academic Staff, 12 Technical and Support staff, 3 Administrative staff. Practical classes are provided in laboratories dedicated to first year teaching, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry teaching. The School of Chemistry has very significant research activity with up to 100 research postgraduate students and research staff. Teaching and research are supported by facilities including extensive laboratories, liquid nitrogen plants and advanced instrumentation such as NMR spectrometers, XRD diffractometers, mass spectrometers, atmospheric simulation chambers, continuous flow systems, AFM, HLPC and other instrumentation. The School requires technical staff to adapt to, and become involved in, all aspects of these activities.  This post offers a varied work environment to a suitably qualified person who values an expansive breadth of activity.

 

Applicants must hold at least a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry or a related discipline. The appointees will work under the direction of and report directly to the Head of School and the Chief Technical Officer. More specific duties are given with the further particulars associated with the post. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the capacity to complement and enhance existing teaching and research interests within the School.

Appointment may be made on the Technical Officer Salary Scale: €48,438 - €66,286 (Scale B) / €50,861 - €63,083 (Scale A)
