Senior Power Systems Researcher, UCD, Until 31/12/26

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Senior Power Systems Researcher within UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. We are seeking to hire a Senior Power Systems Researcher to join as a member of the research team to focus on the operational performance and grid compliance of electrolysers in the future Irish transmission system. As power systems transition towards higher renewables shares, and thermal generation is displaced, new operational practices and system service arrangements are required to ensure system security and robustness. Mitigation measures are required to better shape load profiles to avoid system stress, provide flexibility, and other support services, while ensuring acceptable levels of renewables curtailment. The production of green hydrogen using electrolysers will be investigated to assess its potential to support operational flexibility and locational grid requirements, while also assessing its ability to provide system services, and support system operation during extended low renewable periods and excess renewable time periods. Salary: €47,000 - €52,500 per annum Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 07/07/2025.
