UCD Post-Doc Lvl 2, Electrical&Electronic Engineering, 12 month

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Applications are invited for a 12-month post-doctoral position with the Neuromuscular Systems Research Lab at University College Dublin. The project represents an exciting opportunity to work on a multidisciplinary research project funded by Research Ireland. This project aims to design and test closed-loop control strategies for deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease. A highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow is sought to develop control theory models for closed-loop control of DBS in Parkinsons' disease using computational models and to develop systems for testing these in preclinical studies. The project would suit candidates with expertise in control theory, computational neuroscience and/or physiology of the corticospinal and basal ganglia systems.

The Neuromuscular Systems Lab is a multidisciplinary research group in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University College Dublin. Our research involves applying engineering principles, in particular mathematical modelling, signal analysis and experimentation, to understand how the nervous system controls muscle in healthy and diseased states. Through this research we aim to improve our understanding of the neuromuscular system to address fundamental questions in the control of human movement and to develop improved therapeutic and rehabilitation strategies.

Fixed Salary: €54,307 Per Annum

Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 15th of September 2025.

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.

UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CVs submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers who have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.

Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/
