Applications are invited for an appointment as a Lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of Galway.

The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences (SBCS) in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Biochemistry, a key subject area within the School. The school has a strong international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research, with a particular emphasis on innovation in research-led teaching.

Major research themes in biochemistry within the school include apoptosis, chromosome biology (www.chromosome.ie), genetics and genomics, and protein biochemistry. Candidates working in these and other areas of biochemistry, genetics/genomics, and molecular or cell biology are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be based in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, which hosts a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, and Genetics/Genomics. The appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching across these programmes and to participate in undergraduate project supervision.

The successful candidate will also be expected to establish and develop an independent research programme capable of attracting national and international funding. Candidates whose research complements existing strengths within the School will be particularly welcome.

Salary: €64,903 - €103,538 per annum (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)

The full-time hours of work for academic staff are 39 hours per week pro rata.
