Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Health Economics at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at the University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is available from 1st July 2026 to contract end date of 31st March 2028.
The Postdoctoral position is available as part of the Prioritise project - PRevnation through Integrated Outcomes: Reducing radon ImpacTs on Irish Society and Economy. Radon is the second-highest leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking, in many countries, and associated increased risk of leukaemia and multiple myelomas have also been reported. The PRIORITISE project addresses a critical evidence gap by delivering an interdisciplinary evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of radon prevention measures in new Irish homes. It will integrate the latest health data, economic modelling, and building science to assess the long-term health and economic value of strategies such as radon barriers, passive sumps, and ventilation systems. The project is a two-year collaborative and interdisciplinary project between researchers based at the University of Galway and Maynooth University. The researcher will work under the supervision of Drs Edel Doherty and Ronan Mahon at University of Galway and the project Principal Investigator, Dr James McGrath at Maynooth University. The researcher will be based at the University of Galway.
**Salary: **Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €46,805 - €59,654 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
