JOB SYNOPSIS:

Are you seeking an academic career in an inspiring and cohesive medical school that delivers excellent research, teaching, and societal impact, then the permanent Associate Professor B-Paramedic Studies/Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Programmes position in our School of Medicine should be of interest to you. An exceptional opportunity currently exists for a suitably qualified person to play a key academic role at the School of Medicine at the University of Limerick (UL). The School was established in 2007 and is the first medical school to be founded since the establishment of the Irish State, the first graduate-entry medical school in Ireland, the first to integrate problem-based learning techniques into its medical degree curriculum and the first to offer level 8 Paramedics degree programmes in Ireland. The Paramedic programmes within the School are renowned for their innovative, student-centered curricula which places a strong emphasis on small-group teaching and on self-directed learning. The core student clinical placement is based with the National Ambulance Service. The overall purpose of the role is to: Provide academic leadership to the Paramedicine programmes as Course Director.   Take a leading role in developing and overseeing the Paramedicine teaching programmes at all levels.  Lead collaborative research bids, research teams or scholastic projects (e.g. editing journals or academic books).  Coordinate and deliver the teaching and assessment activities for a specific year (currently year four but subject to change) of the Paramedics Degree programmes.   The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching at University (or equivalent) level. They must demonstrate an understanding of and ability to engage in small group teaching activities, have an established record in curriculum development and assessment and experience of delivering online modules/learning content and demonstrate an ability to integrate with other disciplines. Excellent leadership qualities are also essential which will influence and shape the output of their discipline and will contribute directly to the level of success of the programmes.   This post provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic and creative individual with vision and flair to be involved in an exciting post in a forward-looking environment. The successful candidate is expected to: teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on accredited Paramedics Studies/Pre-Hospital Emergency Care programmes, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research, undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position and undertake excellent research.
