Associate Professor B - Statistics and Data Science (Re-advertisement)

Applications are invited for the following position:

Title of Post: Associate Professor B - Statistics and Data Science (Re-advertisement)

JOB SYNOPSIS

Advance and consolidate an international centre of excellence in statistics and data science research at the University of Limerick. Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a welcoming and inclusive community of researchers and professional staff. We are proud of our recent Athena Swan silver award, and we seek to continue improving across all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion.  The department has a thriving research programme in applied mathematics and statistics, and it is responsible for teaching mathematics and statistics at all levels across the University. To support our growth, we are seeking to appoint two Associate Professors B (tenured) of Statistics and Data Science. We seek candidates with leadership potential and an internationally recognised track record in research in one or more branches of statistics.

Research interests in the Department focus on the development of statistical and applied mathematical methods (and hybrids thereof) for a range of real-world applications. Examples of specific statistical topics include Bayesian modelling, functional data analysis, survival analysis, spatial statistics, statistical learning, biostatistics, network models and climate modelling, but further linking between statistics and financial/applied mathematics, e.g. as part of MACSI (the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry), would be particularly welcome.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (level 10 NFQ) in statistics or equivalent discipline, a track record of excellent publications in relevant journals and a developing research reputation. Evidence of success in research funding applications is desirable as is significant experience of working in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a passion and commitment to teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and have a clear plan for contributing to the evolving research strategy of MACSI in statistics and data science.

In addition, a commitment to EDI principles and to collaborative research with departments and research centers across the University of Limerick is desirable. MACSI works closely with several of the research Institutes in UL, such as the Health Research Institute, the Bernal Institute and Lero (the Irish software research center), as well as having investigators in SFI-funded national research centers including the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, the Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre (SSPC) and Vistamilk. Further application areas of interest to the University are outlined in the University's Research Strategy 2022-2027.

The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the delivery and organisation of teaching their subject within the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to develop a research programme which complements existing research themes within the Department. Management and administrative responsibilities, and other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post, may be assigned by the Head of Department.
