JOB SYNOPSIS

The School of Allied Health (SAH) at the University of Limerick (UL) invites applications for an Associate Professor B/Associate Professor A in Digital Technology and Health. The School of Allied Health is a dynamic and collaborative environment that delivers excellence in research, teaching, and societal impact. UL’s School of Allied Health is dedicated to advancing the role of Allied Health professionals in enhancing health and well-being through pioneering research, scholarly activity, and the education of future practitioners. As an interdisciplinary institution, the school encompasses four Allied Health disciplines and offers five CORU-approved pre-registration programmes in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Speech and Language Therapy. Additionally, the School provides a growing portfolio of post-registration programmes aimed at fostering professional development for Allied Health professionals. Situated in the purpose-built Health Sciences Building on UL’s North Campus, the School of Allied Health is a thriving academic hub, home to over 400 students and more than 90 staff members.

The school is highly research-active, with a particular focus on studies that inform policy, shape service delivery, and ultimately optimise health outcomes across society. Faculty and researchers maintain an impressive record of securing funding from prestigious national and international sources, including the Health Research Board, Research Ireland, and EU funders. The school also collaborates with more than 85 global institutions. The school’s research is also supported by the University’s Health Research Institute (HRI) which boasts a strong network of distinguished researchers. Its mission is to propel person-centred, technology-enabled, integrated healthcare and treatment, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Three of ‘Good Health & Wellbeing’. It provides expertise in biostatistics, health informatics, and health economics, facilitated through the Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU). Its goal is to provide a rich collaborative environment that fosters discovery and innovation in health science that will lead to better health, improved care and a healthier society. The HRI acts as an enabler for researchers by allowing access to interdisciplinary research expertise across a range of departments to develop a critical mass of researchers - interdepartmental, inter-institutional and international.

The School of Allied Health maintains a strong commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture. Our faculty members actively engage in patient and public involvement (PPI), interprofessional collaboration, and implementation science to drive meaningful advancements in healthcare. We also support a significant number of postgraduate MSc and PhD students, complemented by a growing cohort of postdoctoral researchers and research staff. This thriving academic community provides an excellent foundation for developing the next generation of Allied Health researchers.
