JOB SYNOPSIS
The Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick (UL) invites applications for a Professor of Social Justice and Democratic Resilience. The Department of Sociology is a dynamic and collaborative environment that delivers excellence in research, teaching, and societal impact. Interdisciplinary Research Centres linked to our department include the Centre for the Study of Popular Music and Popular Culture (CSPMPC) and the European Centre for the Study of Hate (ECSH). Our faculty members’ teaching and research interests span the breadth of the discipline and have expertise in quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches. The Department’s research profile is distinguished by its dual commitment to rigorous scholarly enquiry and meaningful social impact, supported by a robust track record in securing competitive funding from both national and international sources, including Research Ireland and EU funders. Our strong publication and citation record is complemented by faculty members’ active engagement with local, national, and supranational bodies, and policy and practice-oriented work. Research outputs developed by staff in the Department of Sociology highlight the range, form, and levels of exclusionary practices as experienced by minority racialised communities, intersecting with class, gender identities and sexualities. The focus of this post, Social Justice and Democratic Resilience, specifically aims to meet the challenges of building an inclusive society. The Department of Sociology is committed to providing our students with an intellectually stimulating educational experience that cultivates disciplinary knowledge and transferable skills. Our teaching is research-driven, and our pedagogical practices are designed to empower students as active and reflective learners. In addition to our undergraduate programmes, we support a growing community of postgraduate students across taught Masters and PhD pathways.
