Lecturer in Information Technology at Shannon College of Hotel Management, 0.2 FTE Term-Time, Contract Type A, Specific Purpose Contract, 011140

Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in Information Technology (0.2 FTE Term-Time) at Shannon College of Hotel Management, University of Galway.   

Shannon College of Hotel Management, founded in 1951, is Ireland’s only dedicated hotel management college with a worldwide outstanding reputation.   In 2015 it became a School of the College of Business, Public Policy and Law, at University of Galway.  We offer two Level 8 degrees, preparing students for careers in business and hotel management. Central to our ethos is a focus on intensive practical training, extensive business and language studies and international work placements which ensures students graduate with a bachelor’s business degree and 21 months of relevant experience. In addition, since September 2018, we are offering three level 9 post graduate Msc programmes.  

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and examining at Shannon College of Hotel Management; engage in student mentoring, scholarship and research; assist with administration and the development of the Information Technology discipline at the school.  

The candidate should be able to teach Information Technology as part of our undergraduate degree curriculum in international hotel management and postgraduate curriculum in business and hospitality. The candidate should also have the ability to teach information technology concepts in a range of business and hotel/hospitality settings. Applicants must have excellent inter-personal, presentation and communication skills and a willingness to take initiative. In addition to having relevant teaching or work experience, the candidate should have a PhD or a professional qualification in the area of proposed appointment, or evidence of significant contribution to the particular area. The candidate should be competent in a range of teaching methods and strategies, should have developed academic administrative skills and be able to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility.

Salary: €63,624 to €101,498 pro rata p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
