Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Teacher Education (x2), Department of Education, Maynooth University

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

We are seeking two excellent academics to join our staff as Assistant Professors / Lecturers in Teacher Education. They should have a Doctorate in Education (or cognate area) or be nearing completion of their Doctorate. The preferred candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching and research programmes of the Department, undertaking teaching duties on the Department’s Initial Teacher Education programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and contribute to Master’s and Doctoral level modules and supervision, as well as conducting placement supervision. The Assistant Professors in Teacher Education will have the theoretical and professional knowledge required to develop student teachers’ practice in classrooms and schools, and improve the Department’s capacity in this regard. Experience of working in support of new and pre-service teachers and researching into school-based settings is highly desirable. The preferred candidates will also be able to work collaboratively in supporting the collegial work of the Department and to assume administrative duties, in particular on initial teacher education programmes and as required on the Department’s other programmes.

The appointees will be expected to establish and build a strong research profile that supports the University’s research strategy, including affiliating to the Research Institutes where appropriate, and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointees will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance, and to undertake engaged research leading to publications of international standard. They will be expected to supervise research students up to doctoral level. The candidates appointed will have a record of teaching, research, and publication, appropriate to career stage.
