Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a part-time (0.4FTE) specific purpose contract appointment as Lecturer in Accountancy, contract Type A with the Discipline of Accountancy and Finance. It is anticipated that the duration of this contract will be circa 1 year. This part-time role is intended to facilitate a job-sharing role. This part-time (0.4FTE) role equates to 2 days per week.  

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and examining at all levels; engage in associated research; assist with administration and the development of the Accountancy and Finance Discipline and J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics; and contribute to the intellectual life of the University and the wider community.  Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to take initiative. In addition to having relevant teaching experience, applicants should have a PhD Degree in Accountancy or a relevant Professional Accounting Qualification.  

J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics is one of three Schools within the College of Business, Public Policy and Law at University of Galway. The Accountancy and Finance Discipline, within the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics, is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in teaching and research. All of the masters programmes are accredited with global professional accounting bodies and the MSc in Corporate Finance is affiliated with CFA Institute. In addition, the Discipline delivers a designated undergraduate degree in Accounting (B. Comm (Accounting)) and has designated streams in both Accountancy and Finance on the Bachelor of Commerce programme as well as a number of modules on the School’s flagship MBA programme. The Purpose of the Role

The School of Social Work and Social Policy offers social work education via the Bachelor in Social Studies (BSS) and the Master in Social Work (MSW). This post is to directly support these flagship social work programmes as well as the other undergraduate & postgraduate offerings within the School.

 

Context 

Candidates must hold a PhD in the social sciences (either completed or submitted by the time of commencement of the post). They also must hold a professional qualification in social work and are registered, or are eligible to register, as a social worker with CORU, Health and Social Care Professional Regulator Ireland. The successful candidate must be registered with CORU prior to the commencement of the post. Appointees will be expected to contribute significantly to the research output and teaching programmes of the School. They will have, or show clear potential of having, relative to career stage, a track record in research, including high impact scholarship and international publications; teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level; administrative and managerial skills. Applications are invited for an appointment as Ward & Burke Established Professor Of Smart Infrastructure and Data Driven Engineering in the School of Engineering at the University of Galway. This role has been developed as part of an exciting strategic partnership between Ward & Burke Construction Ltd, the University of Galway and the School of Engineering and the Construct Innovate Centre (Ireland’s National Research Centre for Construction Technology and Innovation). The Ward & Burke Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Data Driven Engineering, located in the School of Engineering alongside Construct Innovate, aims to make Ireland a global research and innovation leader for infrastructure, data-driven engineering, sustainable construction and built environment technology. The Centre will lead globally impactful research that enables climate resilient infrastructure and energy excellence in infrastructure development.

The successful candidate will capitalise upon and strengthen University of Galway’s international position in Smart Infrastructure and Data Driven Engineering. This role strongly aligns with climate-neutral and smart cities, one of the five missions of Horizon Europe. This role will provide leadership to the University’s ambitions to further world-class research within the newly formed Ward & Burke Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Data Driven Engineering and deliver upon our commitment to supporting the just transition to a low carbon future. It will support the infrastructure sector in meeting key societal challenges, supporting sustainable economic growth and meeting the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard, which establishes a robust emissions reduction target that aligns with the pace and scale mandated by climate science. The Centre, located in the School of Engineering alongside Construct Innovate, will make Ireland a global research and innovation leader for infrastructure, data-driven engineering, sustainable construction and built environment technology.

There are many exciting opportunities to foster the application of disruptive innovation, new research approaches to the design, construction and operation of infrastructure including, but not limited to, water and wastewater infrastructure, flood and coastal protection, microtunnelling/pipe-jacking and stormwater conveyance systems. Such research will provide the opportunity for multidisciplinary research approaches, for example the application in developing energy neutrality in infrastructure projects (including on construction sites), developing climate-resilient approaches to infrastructure design and operation, enhancing the social benefit of infrastructure and minimising the environmental impacts of these projects. The successful candidate will be an ambitious, and highly committed individual who combines strong academic credentials with a record of accomplishment in research and innovation leadership in these and related areas.

The appointee will have prior experience of building, leading and managing a high-performance research team, prior experience of knowledge transfer, innovation and partnering with industry, and demonstrated experience of delivering strategic objectives. The role requires an individual who can foster a culture of innovation and collaboration with staff, industry partners, policy makers, regulatory and professional bodies, and other stakeholders to develop and grow this area of strategic importance to the University of Galway.  

It is expected that the appointee will lead a world-class research programme, working with colleagues across the relevant academic disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering and research institutes. Civil Engineering has active clusters in construction, environmental engineering, structural engineering, offshore engineering, transport, geotechnical engineering etc. Of particular relevance is Construct Innovate, Ireland’s national research centre for construction technology and innovation, which collaborates with over 90 construction companies and is led by academic staff from the School of Engineering at University of Galway and the Ryan Institute which focuses on sustainability research and innovation. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for major funding awards, for example from the European Research Council (ERC), Research Ireland and Horizon Europe, and will develop national and international collaborations with academia and industry. 
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, student project supervision, and programme administration across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Civil Engineering and the School of Engineering and will benefit from a significant package for Centre-related research, including PhD and researcher funding.

The successful candidate shall possess:
A PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely-related discipline, significant research experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: soil/structure interaction, microtunnelling/pipe-jacking, water and wastewater engineering, application of data and digital engineering approaches including innovative sensor and sensing technologies, neural-network approaches for engineering applications, use and application of digital twins in infrastructure, the use of artificial intelligence for more sustainable and efficient infrastructure design and automation in infrastructure and construction applications.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Galway is a dynamic, innovative, research active School with vibrant teaching and research programmes. Midwifery lecturers are responsible for a variety of duties in teaching, student supervision, course development and organisation. Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of teaching, and associated administration across all midwifery programmes. Additionally, contribute to teaching across School programmes, both in classroom, skills laboratories, simulation suites, clinical settings and on-line. Relevant curriculum and practice development will be undertaken along with a contribution to the development of student placements and initiatives.  

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research output of the school and specifically play a leading role in the future development of research goals at the University of Galway.  

Candidates should have an excellent academic record with appropriate professional and academic qualifications and must have experience of teaching in third level institution(s). Experience of programme development is preferred, and applicants should demonstrate clinical credibility in midwifery, and conducting research.

Salary: €64,260 to €102,513 p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)

Lecturer in General Practice

Permanent Part Time Post (0.5 FTE)

 

UCC wishes to appoint an academic General Practitioner to the role of Lecturer in General Practice (0.5FTE). Reporting to the Head of Department the successful candidates will be expected to contribute to and lead undergraduate general practice curriculum design, delivery, and assessment, support the clinical placement of medical students, undertake clinical research and research supervision, apply for research grant funding in line with UCC research priorities, and undertake academic duties within the Department, School and College.

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer (Above the Bar) Salary Scale (pro rata): €79,185 - €102,549 (Scale B) / €75,338 - €97,420 (Scale A).

JOB SYNOPSIS

Buildings and Estates is a multi-disciplinary department responsible for, amongst other things, new buildings and works projects, maintaining the campus buildings fabric and associated building plant, maintaining all campus grounds, cleaning, waste management, portering, traffic and parking management, space planning and management, the safety of the built environment, security and energy management. The Buildings and Estates Department supports the University Senior Management team in all aspects of estate planning and management. In particular, the Department is required to contribute to the University’s strategic and corporate planning, with special focus on the physical environment and the physical resources strategy. This contribution is essential in the context of supporting the University’s teaching, research, campus life services, sports facilities and other business activities. UL Procurement delegates the procurement of Works and Works Related Services to the Buildings and Estates Department. This includes all professional services associated with Works, i.e. design teams, design specialists for bespoke services e.g. Consultancy Services in respect of Decarbonisation of heating feasibility study. The Tendering & Procurement Co-Ordinator will be a key member of the Administrative Team to assist in the successful delivery of our procurement activities within the Projects Team, Technical Services Team and Operations Team to deliver our strategic objectives and business continuity of the University.
