Content Manager, 1 year

The part-time Content Manager will assist Prof Alison Hanlon with the implementation of the Dissemination and Communication Strategy of the EU Reference Centre for Animal Welfare (EURCAW) Ruminants & Equines. This involves assisting with the management of two websites, creating news items, newsletters and monthly reporting on the analytics. Organising the translation process of fact sheets into EU official languages, preparing communication tools such as creating audio playlists of factsheets published by the Centre. Proof-reading of the Centre's documents and organising events on a Community of Practice are also key tasks. The recently funded HRB UCC Cancer Trials Group will bring together cancer clinical trials units at Cork University Hospital (CUH), University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and the long-standing partner unit at the Bons Secours Cork Cancer Centre; in partnership with the HRB Clinical Research Facility in Cork (CRF-UCC) and University College Cork (UCC). UCC CTG will develop an efficient and coordinated cancer clinical trials infrastructure regionally which can “provide Irish patients access to a diverse portfolio of high-quality, safe and compliant cancer clinical trials”. UCC Cluster Sites have been in operation for close to two decades, serving a geographically diverse population of 1.2 million in the South of Ireland. Our broad portfolio encompasses phase 1-3 therapeutic trials in haematologic/solid malignancies, radiation therapy and surgery; including academic collaborative trials via Cancer Trials Ireland, and industry trials, with a developing portfolio of investigator-initiated trials (IITs). 

The post holder will contribute to the data management portfolio of studies taking place in the Cancer Trials Cork Unit at the Cork University Hospital. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy, organisation and an awareness of time management.

The Research Assistant is required to manage data in the department of Cancer Trials Cork at CUH.  He/she is responsible for the creation, updating, maintenance and validation of clinical study databases, and for the provision of computerised reports of these data.  He/she is a key member of the clinical project team and should be able to prioritise and work in line with project management decisions.  The responsibilities of the Research Assistant are to manage clinical trials through review, computerisation, cleaning and auditing of clinical data and databases in compliance with standard operating procedures and regulatory agency guidelines.  The role of Research Assistant is to ensure the data is accurate and consistent before it is passed on to the study team for analysis which will determine the outcome of the trial.

JOB SYNOPSIS:

The aim of the overall programme of research, to which this work package belongs, is to ensure that interventions to support language and communication deliver maximum benefit for children with or at risk for developmental language disorder (DLD) by developing a set of internationally accepted reporting guidelines as proposed by Frizelle, McKean, Eadie et al (2023). The research assistant will contribute to research activities, in work package four of this project, designed to identify essential treatment outcomes from the perspective of key stakeholder groups; leading to the development of a Core outcome set for interventions with children with or at risk of DLD. They will work with the work package lead at UL, other members of the research team at UL and project teams in UCC and internationally, to identify essential and desirable DLD oral language treatment outcomes from the perspective of an international sample of people with DLD and their families; clinicians, educators; and researchers in the area of DLD. The research assistant will support participant recruitment, data-gathering, data-analysis and write up. The research assistant will also support completion of the systematic reviews of literature regarding outcomes and outcome measurement tools.

We seek to appoint a Technical Officer with the dual role of leading sample preparation activities and supporting the operation of key analytical equipment in the School of Earth Sciences. The successful candidate will prepare and train users in the preparation of a wide variety of Earth materials for analysis (involving sawing, crushing, grinding, resin mounting, lapping and polishing). The School was established in 2007 and is the first medical school to be founded since the establishment of the Irish State, the first graduate-entry medical school in Ireland, the first to integrate problem-based learning techniques into its medical degree curriculum and the first to offer level 8 Paramedics degree programmes in Ireland. The Paramedic programmes within the School are renowned for their innovative, student-centered curricula which places a strong emphasis on small-group teaching and on self-directed learning. The core student clinical placement is based with the National Ambulance Service. The overall purpose of the role is to: Provide academic leadership to the Paramedicine programmes as Course Director.   Take a leading role in developing and overseeing the Paramedicine teaching programmes at all levels.  Lead collaborative research bids, research teams or scholastic projects (e.g. editing journals or academic books).  Coordinate and deliver the teaching and assessment activities for a specific year (currently year four but subject to change) of the Paramedics Degree programmes.   The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching at University (or equivalent) level. They must demonstrate an understanding of and ability to engage in small group teaching activities, have an established record in curriculum development and assessment and experience of delivering online modules/learning content and demonstrate an ability to integrate with other disciplines. JOB SYNOPSIS

Advance and consolidate an international centre of excellence in statistics and data science research at the University of Limerick. Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a welcoming and inclusive community of researchers and professional staff. We are proud of our recent Athena Swan silver award, and we seek to continue improving across all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion.  The department has a thriving research programme in applied mathematics and statistics, and it is responsible for teaching mathematics and statistics at all levels across the University. To support our growth, we are seeking to appoint two Associate Professors B (tenured) of Statistics and Data Science. We seek candidates with leadership potential and an internationally recognised track record in research in one or more branches of statistics.

Research interests in the Department focus on the development of statistical and applied mathematical methods (and hybrids thereof) for a range of real-world applications. Examples of specific statistical topics include Bayesian modelling, functional data analysis, survival analysis, spatial statistics, statistical learning, biostatistics, network models and climate modelling, but further linking between statistics and financial/applied mathematics, e.g. as part of MACSI (the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry), would be particularly welcome.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (level 10 NFQ) in statistics or equivalent discipline, a track record of excellent publications in relevant journals and a developing research reputation. Evidence of success in research funding applications is desirable as is significant experience of working in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a passion and commitment to teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and have a clear plan for contributing to the evolving research strategy of MACSI in statistics and data science.

In addition, a commitment to EDI principles and to collaborative research with departments and research centers across the University of Limerick is desirable. MACSI works closely with several of the research Institutes in UL, such as the Health Research Institute, the Bernal Institute and Lero (the Irish software research center), as well as having investigators in SFI-funded national research centers including the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, the Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre (SSPC) and Vistamilk. Further application areas of interest to the University are outlined in the University's Research Strategy 2022-2027.

The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the delivery and organisation of teaching their subject within the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to develop a research programme which complements existing research themes within the Department. Management and administrative responsibilities, and other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post, may be assigned by the Head of Department.
