As part of a new programme of work supported by an Institutional Research Culture award from Wellcome - Research Culture Networking, Empowerment, Engagement, and Wellbeing (RENEEW) - the Research Culture Initiative is recruiting a Research Culture Engagement Specialist. The post holder will be required to work with a broad range of stakeholders across UCD including UCD Research Managers and Administrators Network (URMAN), Technical Officers, College and School Offices, Research Staff Association & Careers Office, Graduate Studies, and other internal and external key stakeholders, including the Research Culture team in Queen's University Belfast (QUB). Embedded in UCD HR Culture and Engagement, this role will report to the RENEEW project team and work closely with the Research Culture & Engagement Manager. 

The post-holder will focus on stakeholder engagement to develop opportunities and adopt mechanisms that will increase visibility and recognition of all those who contribute to research. The successful candidate will be responsible for on-going facilitation of an interdisciplinary research seminar series, aimed at early career researchers (ECRs) to foster development of truly interdisciplinary research ideas. The post-holder will support the rollout and reporting of findings for the UCD Research Culture Survey. The role will coordinate internal and external communications about all project activities. 

Salary: €49,208 Per Annum

Role Profile

The School is seeking to recruit a temporary (3 year) position at the level of Assistant Professor in General Nursing. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and modules related to general nursing through research-led teaching, student mentoring and support, and supervision of student projects and research. The successful candidate will also be expected to support programme administration, clinical placements, research supervision and service and external engagement activities of the School and University. The post is based on the Glasnevin Campus and the candidate will report to the Head of School.

Qualifications and Experience

 

Essential Criteria

  • Applicants will be qualified to a post-graduate level in a relevant field.
  • Applicants will have completed, be undertaking, or be committed to undertaking a PhD/Doctorate in a relevant field. If this is not completed or underway candidates are expected to describe that commitment in their application. 
  • Applicants must be registered or be eligible to register as a General Nurse in the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Demonstrable evidence of a strong clinical background in general nursing. 
  • Previous teaching experience in an academic setting or in a service setting is required.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with evidence of successful teamwork and a collaborative and collegial approach.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop excellent work relationships with colleagues both in the university and healthcare/ service environments.

 

Desirable Criteria

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following:

  • Evidence of conducting research and dissemination with a track record of peer-reviewed publications. 
  • Evidence of contributing to funded research projects and/or attracting funding from competitive research funding schemes.

UCC is seeking to recruit a Post-doctoral/Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to work within the Offshore Renewable Energy Research Group in MaREI/Lir - NOTF. 

MaREI is a key research centre within UCC’s Environmental Research Institute (ERI), which is an internationally recognised Institute for environmental research dedicated to the understanding and protection of our natural environment and to developing innovative technologies, tools and services to facilitate a transformation to a zero carbon and resource efficient society. The MaREI Centre is a Research Ireland funded research centre headquartered in the ERI and includes 13 other Universities and Third Level Institutes from across Ireland, has 50 industrial partners and has accumulated research funding of approximately €60m. It combines the expertise of a wide range of research groups and industry partners, with the shared mission of solving the main scientific, technical and socio-economic challenges across the climate, energy and marine spaces.  MaREI is also funded by SEAI, EI, EPA, ERDF, EU, HEA, Marine Institute, DCCAE and IRC, as well as through contributions from our industry partners. Researchers in the MaREI Centre have over 30 years of experience in conducting fundamental and applied research supported by competitively won national and international funding, and commercial contracts with government agencies and industry.  Lir NOTF houses Ireland’s only infrastructure for small to medium scale laboratory testing of ocean and maritime systems, and has expert support personnel and a track record stretching back to 1977. We engage with industry and researchers to support the development of these emerging technologies. Reputed for our contributions to wave, tidal and offshore wind energy development. We are also known for our work with floating structures, offshore structures, coastal engineering including breakwaters and harbours, hydrodynamics, scour, vessels and offshore logistics

The successful candidate will be engaged in planning, executing, analysing and reporting on scaled physical testing of offshore renewable models. Operating the wave tanks and associated experimental equipment as well as setting up the model is part of this job. The successful candidate should create reports to a high level of detail after analysing raw data from sensors. 

The person will be actively involved in adhering to a quality system and be a willing participant in the promotion of a safe work culture. The role requires excellent communication skills both at a local level with colleagues and externally with clients and academic partners. knowledge of fluid dynamics, wave structure interaction and marine renewable energy systems is essential to this role. 

The Researcher will be involved in conducting the physical model testing of offshore renewable energy systems, analysing the data collected and reporting it to a high standard. Based on the results obtained, the successful candidate should be able to give constructive feedback to the clients/researchers where applicable.  

The Ocean Energy programme supports, promotes and enhances the development of the ocean energy sector within Ireland, applicants should note that the position requires them to be on site in the Beaufort Building at Lir-NOTF.  SEAI operates the programme in partnership with UCC.  The programme is aligned to the actions set out in the Offshore Renewable Energy Development Plan (OREDP) and the Climate Action Plan (CAP) and is funded by the Department of Communication, Climate Action and Environment.

ORE group - The Offshore Renewable Energy Group, in the MaREI research centre at University College Cork, is a focused group of researchers under the tutelage of Dr Jimmy Murphy, who researches ORE industry needs from wet storage solutions, LCOE modelling to technology development. It is a dynamic team that meets the challenges of the ORE sector by developing specialized tools creating data sets and assisting in technology development.

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated research assistant to join an interdisciplinary team working on a clinical trial of cognitive rehabilitation in multiple sclerosis (MS). This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant team and contribute to a large-scale national definitive trial in MS. We will test the clinical and cost-effectiveness of a novel MS-specific programme: Cognitive Occupation-Based programme for people with Multiple Sclerosis (COB-MS) developed by Principal Investigator (PI; Dr Hynes). The COB-MS aims to improve patient care and has potential to have a strong positive impact on patient outcomes. This is a three-arm single-blind cluster randomised control trial. The post would suit a someone with strong organisational skills.

Salary:  Salary: Research Assistant salary scale €32,962- €42,943 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.  

NB: Garda vetting is a requirement for this post.

The workshops are delivered to families in local community centres, libraries and primary schools nationwide, with the ultimate goal of building sustained community-based parent/children coding clubs across the country. 

The Project Administrator will work closely with the Programme Manager and Project Lead to ensure successful roll out of multiple strands of funded project activity.

The Purpose of the Role 

The CMU is Trinity College Dublin’s central animal services facility, supporting a wide range of biomedical and health sciences research through the provision of regulated, ethical animal care services. The unit is registered and approved under EU and national legislation (SI 543 of 2012), with the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) designated as the Competent Authority under Directive 2010/63/EU. It provides critical infrastructure and technical expertise to support key scientific research across the entire University. 

The Chief Technical Officer 2 (CTO2) plays a key leadership role within the CMU’s technical team, with responsibility for the practical coordination, supervision, and day-to-day support of approximately 11 technical officers and laboratory attendants. Working closely with the Chief Technical Officer 1 (CTO1)— who holds formal line management responsibility—the CTO2 acts as a team leader, ensuring consistent delivery of high standards in animal welfare, technical service provision, and health and safety compliance. 

The role is central to maintaining operational continuity across multiple CMU sites, delivering hands-on training, supporting SOP implementation, and ensuring adherence to national and EU legislation. In the absence of the CTO1, the CTO2 will be requested to assume delegated responsibilities from the Director of Operations and Facilities to maintain service delivery and staff support.

 

Context of the Role 

The CMU consists of approximately 15 staff based across five locations on campus. It is jointly governed by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (FSTEM) and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS). Within this structure, the Academic Director of the CMU leads on research and ethical compliance, while the Director of Operations and Facilities is responsible for operational oversight, staff development, regulatory preparedness, and promoting a strong culture of care. The technical staff team formally sits under the Director of Operations and Facilities. 

The CTO2 supports the CTO1 in leading this technical team across all CMU sites.

 

Person Requirements 

The role-holder will require the following knowledge, skills and attributes for successful performance in the role. 

 

Qualifications 

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways, depending on the date of entry to the public sector: 

• For entrants from 1 January 2007 onwards: An honours degree and a Master’s degree (or equivalent postgraduate qualification), preferably in a veterinary or relevant biological discipline, along with substantial experiential learning of working with animals (ideally in an academic environment) and/or a minimum of Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Level 6 qualification.

• For entrants before 1 January 2007: A national certificate in Science and Health (i.e. a higher education qualification in a Science and Health discipline from an Institute of Technology or HETAC-designated institution in Ireland), substantial experiential learning of working with animals (ideally in an academic environment), and at minimum, an Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Level 3 qualification or equivalent. 

• The minimum entry point will be the 1st point of the Chief Technical Officer 2 scale. Candidates should note that a different starting salary may apply if, immediately prior to appointment, the successful candidate is a serving public or civil servant.
