The successful candidate will evaluate the performance (in terms of phase noise, jitter and spurs) of a novel divider controller for use in fractional-N frequency synthesizers. He/she will publish the results and protect related intellectual property and may be required to spend time with collaborators outside UCD. The role will involve background research, theory, modelling, simulation, experiment design, electrical measurements, critical analysis, and technical writing. The Purpose of the Role: 

We are seeking a committed and dedicated individual to join our team and contribute to the growth, delivery, and continuous improvement of the CIHS's Research, Education and Training programmes. This role includes supporting ongoing research projects, delivering Human Factors training, as well as other Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses in areas such as Sustainability, Workplace Wellbeing, and Systemic Risk Management. Additionally, the role will contribute to teaching on our Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, and MSc programme in Managing Risk and System Change. The ideal candidate will have expertise in at least one of the following areas, Human Factors, Risk and Safety Management, Sustainable behaviour, Workplace Wellbeing and will have a strong track record in creating and delivering training programmes across diverse industries.

 

Context: 

The CIHS has a very active portfolio spanning research, education, training, consultancy and outreach activities. Our expertise lies in applying Psychology, Human Factors, Systems Thinking, and Action Research to address and enhance operational and strategic risk, change management, safety, well-being, and long-term sustainability within safety-critical sectors. The unique contribution of the CIHS is to put the human at the Centre of its analysis – systems and processes have to work for people, and they can only do this if the role of humans is central. The approach of the CIHS encompasses all those factors that can influence people and their behaviour. The CIHS collaborates extensively with a wide range of industries, including Health, Aviation, Finance, and Pharmaceuticals, fostering long-term partnerships in research, training, and education. Additionally, our thriving alumni community from the PG Cert/Diploma/MSc in Managing Risk & System Change actively contributes to our shared mission and ongoing activities. 

The CIHS have been running a very successful STAMINA Human Factor’s training programmes over the past 20 years to a wide range of safety critical industries. The Centre was also successful in securing funding from the HEA’s Human Capital Initiative (HCI) in 2021 to support a five-year innovative, skills-led teaching initiative. From this we have been running CPD courses which provide practical and robust training for industry professionals. 

Additionally, the role includes exploring and developing new training and educational opportunities. The candidate will immerse themselves in the ongoing research activities and outputs of CIHS, integrating key findings into training programmes. Responsibilities will include updating training content, ensuring existing material is current and embedded in the latest state of the art research and relevant regulatory requirements, managing the training team, overseeing training delivery and evaluation, and maintaining ongoing coordination with industry clients. The candidate will report directly to the Head of School and Centre Co-Directors.

The Purpose of the Role 

The Careers Consultant will be responsible for leading on the provision of specialist careers education, information and guidance to students and recent graduates to enable them to realise their career potential and equip them with the skills to succeed in the workplace of the future. They will lead the direction and management of the relationship between their designated Schools/Disciplines and the Careers Service and will be responsible for the development and tailoring of course content and services to meet their specific needs and those of their students (undergraduate and postgraduate). 

Reporting to the Director of Careers (or their designate), the Careers Consultant will lead the development and implementation of strategically important plans and programmes related to careers and student employability across Trinity, and the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of related services (e.g., career guidance), activities (e.g., embedding careers in the curriculum and facilitating skills development), and initiatives (e.g., Trinity Career Skills Award). 

They will build and nurture productive working and professional relationships with internal (i.e., students, graduates, academics, professional areas) and external (graduate employers, public and private industry partners, not-for-profits, and government and professional bodies) stakeholders to advance careers and employability within the curriculum and enhance Trinity students’ career opportunities. They will use their specialist expertise and knowledge in careers, graduate employability, labour market trends and future skills needs to inform and influence the direction of relevant strategies, policies and programmes across the Service and the university.

 

Context 

The Trinity Careers Service, which is part of Trinity Teaching and Learning, supports students (approx. 22,000 undergraduates and postgraduates) and recent graduates across all disciplines to explore their career ambitions for the future and plan how to achieve them using a wide variety of activities, services, events, and resources. The team currently includes a Director of Careers, 6 Careers Consultants, a Student Employability Officer, a Careers and Employability Support Officer (CESO), a Partnership Development Officer, a Data Analyst, a Communications and Digital Officer, and 3 Executive Officers (total staff of 15). 

The Careers Service has undergone significant changes in the past five years, embracing new initiatives to improve employability opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Key initiatives include the development and delivery, in conjunction with industry, of Employability and Career Skills Awards and academic modules, and the introduction of the Laidlaw Undergraduate Leadership and Research Programme. The implementation of MyCareer, our online careers system, has also significantly improved our reach across students, graduates, academic staff, and external partners. 

Micro-credentials at Trinity (2022) and the Enterprise Eco-System (2023) – both funded under the Human Capital Initiative – were brought together with the Careers Service under the umbrella of Careers and Development for development and oversight. The Careers Consultant will play a key role in aligning the broader Careers and Development team with changing employment trends, labour market needs, and government policies on employment and skills.

Open-RAN represents a significant shift from single-vendor to multi-vendor deployments, allowing for more competition and integration of AI/ML functionalities. However, this approach creates challenges, such as conflicting network parameter changes by independently operating xApps.
