Facilities Engineer, Cork University Dental School & Hospital

Vacancy Description

UCC wishes to appoint an experienced facilities manager for Cork University Dental School and Hospital who will be responsible for the implementation of agreed objectives and to ensure optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical electrical and fire/life safety systems.  They will lead the ongoing conservation and improvement of the mechanical/electrical systems within the building.  They will manage maintenance contracts and prepare detailed preventative maintenance programmes.  The post holder will be the key person involved in the management of legionella. 

 

The Facilities Engineer will be responsible along with their colleagues in UCC Buildings & Estates Office for the design, tendering and project management of all small projects in the Dental School and Hospital.  They will assist Laboratory Leads on the functionality of their respective labs and shall prepare and maintain detailed area specific operational manuals. 

They will work on their own initiative, have a high level of diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and enthusiastically deliver a prompt, customer focussed service in a team environment.  They will be a highly safety conscious, hands-on, competent and innovative person.

Head of Advancement

UCC wishes to appoint an experienced individual to the role of Head of Advancement (Data, Research and Pipeline Management).  The Head of Advancement (Data, Research and Pipeline Management) is a key member of the Advancement Office. The role oversees a wide variety of activities fundamental to the success of fundraising. The role will manage a proactive prospect research service to build a strong pipeline and will use data analysis and prospect insights to play an important role in driving fundraising campaign strategy. The role will have oversight of the Gift Acceptance and Due Diligence processes, gift handling and acknowledgement, and managing the due diligence function as it relates to donors, prospective donors and honoraries. The postholder will also lead the work with external fundraising consultants, Blackbaud on projects to develop Raiser’s Edge NXT (CRM) database for Campaign reporting and dashboards and will liaise with other external providers of prospect research, due diligence and data mining services.

 

The successful candidate will be a natural collaborator, with proven project management and prosect research skills. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager to make a transformational difference to the Advancement Office’s infrastructure, in advance of the University’s upcoming fundraising Campaign.

ABOUT UCC CTG:

  • The UCC CTG is a new HRB funded collaborative team which aims to bring together a dedicated team of cancer specialists and research staff across the south of Ireland. The UCC CTG is part of Cancer Research @UCC, a translational cancer research centre within the College of Medicine & Health at University College Cork. ABOUT ACADEMIC RESEARCH AT CTC @CUH:

  • The role will be hosted in Cancer Research @UCC and the Cancer Trials Cork Unit at CUH (CTC @CUH) in the Breast Lung Gynaecology portfolio. The CUH unit has been in operation for close to two decades, serving a geographically diverse population of 1.2 million in the South of Ireland. This team has grown over the past few years and continued growth is projected for years to come. The CNMII will work closely under the guidance of Professor Roisin Connolly /CNM3 /Nurse Management and team members. 

As a summary, the role will include:

  • Co-ordination of clinical and translational aspects of the project including direct interface with pathology department, scientific collaborators, external laboratories and data scientists etc.
  • Clinical responsibilities.
  • Working with pathology for slide cutting and storage, labelling etc
  • Coordination of sample distribution to labs and payments/invoices for correlative studies. 
  • Keeping accurate logs of the specimens and results, linking with Castor© database (study database) where relevant
  • Collection of clinical data from relevant databases when required for abstract preparation
  • Supporting team meetings (minutes/agendas/follow up tasks) specific to the project
  • Support other studies taking place in the Cancer Trials Cork unit at Cork University Hospital where deemed necessary and in keeping with funding requirements
  • Engage cross-functionally with different stakeholders, knowledge sharing, and building relationships. 
  • This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer literacy, organization and an awareness of time management.
  • The MINA study – ‘Microbiome Immunotherapy Neoadjuvant Assessment’ - is a prospective observational study that aims to characterise and evaluate the bacterial population shown to be present in the immediate environment of breast tumours. Previous work has shown that these bacteria can alter the effectiveness of some commonly used anti-cancer drugs, and so it is hoped that data from this study can support the development of new biomarkers that can measure how well some patients might respond to chemotherapy compared to others.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • Qualified Nurse (Mandatory RGN, BSc).
  • Oncology background or related experience would be a strong advantage.
  • Strong interest in gaining experience in this area will also be considered without previous experience in Oncology nursing.

Job Description: 

This Senior Research Fellow position requires an established researcher who will play a leading role in planning, conducting, and delivering prioritised national and international evidence syntheses while building capacity in these activities. The role demands extensive experience and expertise in evidence synthesis methodology, coupled with proven leadership skills on an international level and an established research reputation.

The successful candidate will lead a substantial program of work within the Centre's synthesis pillar, taking responsibility for major synthesis research projects and their overall success. They will play a key role in developing research strategies within the Centre and must contribute significantly to securing research funding. The candidate will lead and co-supervise research teams, mentor junior researchers and PhD students, and contribute to the ESI training programme.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an established track record of contributing substantively to securing significant research funding, have a proven ability to lead regional, national and international collaborative synthesis projects, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge to act as a research leader in evidence synthesis.

Duties 

Research Leadership 

  • Lead and manage a specific programme of research and scholarship in evidence synthesis, defining research objectives and conducting substantive, original and significant research
