The University of Galway welcomes applications for a lectureship in Drama and Theatre Studies, on a Specific Purpose Contract, part-time basis, in order to cover some of the responsibilities of a staff member who is participating in a funded research project. The successful candidate will teach classes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, offering classes in in at least two of the following core programme areas: playwriting and screenwriting, creative producing, theatre history, and/or performance analysis. The post is part-time (0.3 FTE) and is being offered as a specific purpose contract and will terminate by reason of the expiry of its specific purpose. It is anticipated that the duration of this assignment will be circa 16 months. 

Drama and Theatre Studies, established at the University of Galway in 2014, offers a four-year undergraduate BA in Drama, Theatre and Performance that integrates both practical and theoretical approaches. The discipline also delivers MA programmes and a structured PhD, while contributing to teaching across English, Music, and other related subjects. It is housed in the O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance, centrally located on the Galway campus. The university is home to one of the world’s most significant archival collections in Irish theatre and maintains formal partnerships with major cultural institutions, including Druid Theatre, the Abbey Theatre, and the Galway International Arts Festival.  

The ideal candidate will have university-level teaching experience, or demonstrable ability to deliver excellent university-level teaching as a professional practitioner, in at least one of the following core areas: playwriting, creative producing, theatre history, performance analysis.  

Applicants must demonstrate a capacity for independent administrative work, as well as a strong commitment to research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Under the terms of the partnership between University of Galway and Druid, the university wishes to invite applications for a 'Druid Lecturer-in-Residence,' who will participate in the development of drama, theatre and performance at University of Galway while facilitating the operation and development of the Druid partnership. 

The post is part-time (0.5 FTE) runs for the entire calendar year (January-December inclusive). and is being offered as a specific purpose contract and will terminate by reason of the expiry of its specific purpose. It is anticipated that the duration of this assignment will be circa 52 months. 

 The successful candidate will teach classes at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as organise the annual Druid Academy series of talks and events and student internships with Druid.  

The successful candidate will need to be present at University of Galway for 2.5 days per week during the teaching semester and at other times during the year as appropriate.

  • A minimum of two years of third-level teaching experience (in at least two of the following core programme areas: acting, directing, devising, creative producing, playwriting and screenwriting, theatre history, performance analysis) or a relevant teaching qualification; plus 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional experience (the third-level teaching experience will be counted towards the total 5 years “relevant professional experience”).

Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate - iPSC-neuronal modelling, 1 FTE, School of Medicine, 011739

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate with Paediatrics/Physiology at the University of Galway, Ireland.

This position is funded by Research Ireland-Child Health Foundation partnership and is available from Sept 2026 to April 2029 (30 months).

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) are devastating early onset severe neurodevelopmental disorders. There is no cure, due to the inaccessibly of human brain and poor disease modelling. This advert is for a full-time post-doc for neuronal modelling and therapeutics of KCNQ2/3- and other DEE. From human patient-derived iPSC lines established at Galway already the project will explore 2D/3D-modelling for therapeutics, using state-of-the art techniques (e.g. neuronal induction, e-phys patch, MEA, calcium imaging, -omics, with therapeutic application) using facilities on-site at University of Galway. The project is highly collaborative, with international partnerships. The main sites are at the Human Biology Building (Physiology) and Human Biosciences (REMEDI), at University of Galway; in conjunction with Clinical Paediatrics.

Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate salary scale €46,805 - €59,654 per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.

The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time or part-time fixed-term position as a Clinical Research Nurse for the Diabetes & Women's Health cluster or a Clinical Research Nurse working across various therapeutic areas with the HRB-Clinical Research Facility Galway (HRB-CRFG) at  the  University of Galway, Ireland.

These positions are funded by clinical research studies with the Diabetes & Women's Health post available immediately for 1 year initially, with the potential to extend subject to research funding availability. The panel posts are for Clinical Research Nurse posts in various therapeutic areas both immediately and those that may arise during the next 12 months.

Since 2008, the HRB-CRFG has been involved in clinical research studies (including observational research, clinical trials and clinical investigations) across many clinical areas (including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, cancer, gastroenterology, psychiatry, obstetrics, etc.). The HRB- CRFG is based in a purpose‐built, state of the art unit dedicated to the conduct of clinical research and undertakes research on behalf of a thriving research community both nationally and internationally. The Unit houses our research teams and research support personnel and has the capacity to conduct in‐person, on‐ site visits with participants in research studies in a safe and regulatory compliant manner. In tandem, HRB-CRFG has developed and refined key skills to support our local researchers and international collaborators in the inception, design and execution of research projects,  particularly  in  the  area  of  clinical trials of novel interventions. The Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this post is to contribute to the teaching, research, outreach and administrative activities in the Discipline of Radiation Therapy. The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to expanding their reputation in teaching and research in the field of radiation therapy. They will have experience working in a radiation therapy clinical department and their research and clinical experience will underpin their teaching.  

 

Context

The Discipline offers a B.Sc. (Hons) in Radiation Therapy, which has strong clinical and academic components as well as online postgraduate certificate, diploma, and MSc. in Advanced Radiation Therapy Practice.  Candidates must hold a B.Sc. in Radiation Therapy and will have some experience working in a radiation therapy department. The successful candidate, who will join the Discipline’s multidisciplinary team, will be expected to contribute to the current undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as appropriate, to be actively involved in research and in our outreach and civic engagement programmes. 

 

Qualifications

  • Hold or be close to completion of a PhD in Radiation Therapy 
  • Have relevant experience working in a radiation therapy clinical department, particularly focused on radiation therapy techniques, imaging and treatment planning
